Barton absolutely pisses on Nolan as a footballer. I know he was rough against Leicester but he hasn't had a full pre-season and has just come back from an injury anyway. We'd be daft not to stick with him cos he's our most technically brilliant player.

Will injuries be as bad in the Chamionship? Yes we had a bunch of permacrocks in the Premier League, but would the intensity of the Premier League be partly to blame? Would we see less injuries in the team now that we can control the tempo in our favour?

Injuries if anything will be worse, due to the physicality of the league and the fact there is more games.

I'm not convinced, I haven't really noticed there being much more aggression thus far. More injuries for us always seem to be muscular things caused by running, and I can perhaps see these starting to go away this year if they aren't having to run their legs off for 90 minutes just trying to keep hold of a 0-0 draw.

What about, after the standard back 4,

DM: Smith

MC: Guthrie

MC: Nolan

Then a front 3 of Ameobi, Lovenkrands and Jonas? Imagine that. Ibra Messi and Henry will be shitting themselves senseless I'd say.

I FORGOT RYAN TAYLOR IN THE WHOLE PICTURE!  :frantic:

Jonas wouldn't work up front. His attacking instincts aren't that great.

I'd suggest (with everyone fully fit)

                                                    Harper

    Simpson            Coloccini                      S. Taylor              Enrique

    Guthrie                Barton                          Smith              Jonas

                              Ameobi                        Lovenkrands

Subs: Krul, R. Taylor, Kadar, Nolan, Ranger, Carroll, Butt

I think we have a decent squad:

Goalies:  Harper (Krul)

RBs: Simpson (R.Taylor, Geremi)

CBs: S. Taylor - Coloccini (Kadar-Tozer-Simpson)

LBs: Enrique (Kadar, R.Taylor)

Wingers: Gutierres, R.Taylor, Lovekrands, LuaLua (LM: Geremi  ;D)

CMs: Smith, Butt, Barton, Nolan, Guthrie, Geremi

Strikers: Ameobi, Carroll, Lovekrands, Ranger

Yep, thats not a bad squad at all for the Championship, IF we keep players fit. Few injuries and players are soon gonna be knackerd, Championship is a long old season.

Can't do anything about it now, so just fingers crossed we dont lose many players to injuries, and can get a small amount of rotation going. A canny few weeks we play Sat-Weds-Sat.

Couple of loan signings in defence would have been lovely mind.

Go knock one out to some porn and cheer up, your posts are so depressing!

Tell me who you would have signed and how much you think you would have spent this summer.

Hakka, I admire your rationality and admit that you make a disturbing amount of sense, but surely there's no excuse for not even bringing in some Premiership youths/rejects in on loan?

I can't defend us not bringing in players on loan, even if til January only.  Perhaps we tried and failed to get them on the terms we wanted, left it too late or perhaps the club did believe it would be sold by now so was hoping to leave it to whoever came in.  The cynical view would be that he couldn't give a shit so didn't try, but I'd rather put it down to him being a chancer and our early success in this league deluding him to believe he can do it with what we have.  It is possible, but a thin squad makes it rather scary if it backfires.  I'm hoping our youngsters are ready to chip in with some games this year or we can justify an acquire an emergency loan if we do lose a group of first team players from the same/similar positions.

Time will tell, and despite the clubs debts I would have done anything to get another two in on loan if I was in charge.

What a shit window btw, in general, not just Newcastle.

Why is it a shit window for Newcastle? - for what its worth,  I think we did well to keep certain players and the addition of Lovendranks is very good.  Making money and reducing the huge debt is very important and our squad is still capable (although thin) to win this league.

Huddersfield before the substitutions was a decent indication that our squad is fucked if we hit an injury crisis.

What club wouldn't be effected by an injury crisis that led to 7 first team players being out? - we fielded that side because we don't really give a shit about that cup and to be honest, althoug we won, it would have counted for shit if all those subs came on and got long term injuries wouldn't it.

We can't afford to sign a second squad of quality resevre players can we, you have to rely on your youth growing up and actually making the grade and chipping in with the first team when they are needed.  Isn't that how football works?

I don't think the inexperienced players add to the depth of a team. We've got bodies, but we don't have any depth.

But there has to come a time when an inexperienced player steps in to the light.  17 to 21 is that age and we have people at that age who in my opinion whom should get chances to prove if they are ready, else its pointless keeping them.  We must believe they are capable of playing in Prem at 21 to 25, and most Prem clubs loan their 17 to 21 year olds out to Championship teams (and lower admittedly) and they usually do alright.  So why can't we call on them to do a job when injuries/fatigue take it's toll on the first team? - If a supposed Premiership youth team 17 to 21 year old can't hack 5 to 10 games in the Championship now, I doubt they ever will.

according to the Chronicle

United can still sign "emergency" loan deals until the end of November meaning there is still a chance to sign defender Craig Cathart from Manchester United on a temporary basis despite the closure of the transfer window.

If someone had said when we sold Duff, that the rest of the window would amount to selling no further players and signing Lovenkrands then i would have been delighted.

Having said that, i'm still disappointed we didn't bring in another one or two players to boost the squad.

Confused!
