Did you think that all those years of happy and cheery "public" persona means that his private live must be the same way all of the time? He's probably finally 'cracked' from the expectation and pressure that people/society have on each other. In the 90's when KK was manager. There was talk back then that he or they were in the crowd during the Howay 5-0 win and had something to do with Ferguson's side being utterly demolished.
