I'm going to do some research to make sure I am not misunderstanding it, but the format for African qualification to the 2014 World Cup seems to be completely absurd and insane. So, 10 groups of four. The winners of these groups will then advance to two-legged aggregate tie with another side to determine who gets the bid. Essentially, all of the African qualifiers will be decided in two-legged aggregate playoff matches. Even OFC, which only has half a bid has not resorted to something like this. What is the point? The games are going to be absolutely mental, though.

Former Barça president Josep Lluís Núñez (he was president during the Cruyff era) has been sentenced to 6 years of jail for tax evasion (not related to Barça although we were sentenced to pay a huge fine for tax evasion during his tenure).

Great president, pity he's always been such a crook.

True, but I don't think they can't go much farther. There really isn't that much talent available yet (and the MLS has too many teams), plus the fact the only competitive game they'll ever play outside a tournament is against Mexico doesn't help either.

Loved the bit in bold here.

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez will be out of action for at least two weeks after he was hospitalized for a concussion sustained during a training session on Tuesday.

The Mexico international was injured when he was hit by a ball on the top of his head and spent a night in hospital. He missed United's 4-0 win over the MLS All-Star team on Wednesday.

After the game, manager Alex Ferguson said he had always planned for Hernandez to have an extended break after playing in the Gold Cup for Mexico.

Sure you did, you genius!

Fookin concussion from getting hit on the head by a ball.

This tweet just about sums up Bob Bradley's firing for me: "Bob Bradley fired as US National Team Coach because you can't fire a generation of mediocre soccer players"

Aye, that's my angle on this really. US can't really aspire to much more right now. Their problems lie elsewhere, not NT coaching.
