Don't have a problem with Shearer - in his opinion - laying into a player he thinks has played shit. What's the problem with that?

Equally, Coyle's well within his right to defend his own player and pull up Shearer if he thinks he's been overly harsh.

Good to see some disagreements.

Just goes to show though, the pundits can't win. How many times has Shearer been criticised by fans for not offering an opinion?

Was just about to say exactly this. First time Shearer has even came out with a genuine opinion, was refreshing tbh/

Shearer was justifiably criticised as a pundit because of lack of knowledge/research and for being too impartial. Obviously, there's nothing wrong with offering an analysis or insight which he feels may not be self-evident to all who watch the game - but there's a way to go about it. Don't think he struck the right balance right at all IMO.
