Spider Jerusalem
This has the potential to be as bad as Channel 5's coverage with the insightful and charismatic John Barnes as it's main face. I miss the red-button option that the BBC had in World Cup 2006 when you could select crowd noise only. That can only have been canned because of bruised egos of the pundits. Guest bimpy474
Sign into this (Sky account holders) and you can cancel your ESPN subscription now rather than wait until the 31st of July. https://skyid.sky.com/signin/helpcentre?successUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fremove.sky.com%2F You have to set an account up with BT to receive their channels, it's 2 quid more than what ESPN was, plus a rip off £15 connection fee. No idea what you have to do on Virign. http://www.bt.com/sport/3-ways-to-watch-bt-sport.html

Dave
Any BT broadband I think. And that's clearly their strategy, to get people to switch. Everyone else can fuck off. Hope it fails miserably.

MidfieldGeneral
Don't know if this has been mentioned yet or not, so apologies in advance if it has. When I was on the phone to Sky today they told me that in light of this being free for BT Broadband subscribers Sky are offering offering reductions on peoples subscriptions to encourage them not to jump ship. I was offered free phone line rental, usually £14.50 per month, for a year with no obligation to take on BT Sports when ESPN goes down on July 31st. Dave
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/michael-owen-retires-heartbreaking-cannot-1895574 Michael Owen admits it is “heart breaking” to be seen as a has-been as he prepares for his final game. Owen, 33, will end his once-glittering career with Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle and Manchester United as a Stoke substitute at Southampton, hoping for a farewell cameo appearance. The former England star is retiring after managing just one start for Stoke all season, because he says he can no longer cut it at the highest level since losing his blistering turn pace. After scoring 158 goals in 297 matches for Liverpool and 40 in 89 games for England, Owen has found the net just once in his year with the Potters. “I want to retire now because I can no longer do what I used to do,” he said. “It’s heart-breaking going onto a pitch and not being able to do what you used to be able to do and the way people see you and react to you. “I still feel as though I can play at the top level and contribute and score goals. I still feel as though I can do it, but not to the level that I used to and that’s the key element in all this. “Your head is telling you that you can do it, but some of the things you simply can’t do because you haven’t got the pace. “That’s the thing that obviously goes and it’s not enjoyable when you know you’re better at something than you’re showing. It has got to a stage where it’s not as much fun now. “I certainly can’t do it as well as I used to and that is, one, hard to take and, two, a realisation that I want people to remember me for the good times – although they might need a good memory!” Owen also regrets that most of his achievements came early in his career at Liverpool and he feels he was hampered in latter seasons because of a litany of injuries. “It’s a little bit disappointing that I achieved so much so soon and it wasn’t spread out over my career,” said the 2001 European Footballer of the Year. “There’s a tinge of, ‘What might have been’ had my body withstood the rigours I put on it early in life. “I’m not going to shout from the rooftops about what I think I might have achieved. “But I was European Player of the Year at a very young age and I was the Golden Boot winner in my first two years in the Premier League. “I’m not going to go through what I did, but I’m pretty certain where I would have been if I hadn’t had some really debilitating injuries.”
