Proposed European Super League

With this new proposed model, we would have (at best) played in the lowest European club competition this season, and wouldn't have been able to make it to the top league for another two seasons, at best. That would have only been possible if we made the final in each European competition both seasons.

It's a closed shop at the top, they just try to hide it.

Is that confirmed? I take it the make up of the top leagues at formation will be decided by the them as well? and promotion and relegation within the system is based up on performance in the super league and not domestic competition? Basically a total decoupling?

if so it’s a massive red flag and hard pass. Nothing has changed

the revenue generated by those clubs would be corrosive as well would decimate domestic competition with FFP being a thing

They've complained FIFA and UEFA have stifled competition and then created a "closed" league strangling competition?!?! [emoji38]

Both are true the whole thing is so twisted.

The only thing that is true is the big clubs loathe competition because it threatens the bottom line and that to them is intolerable.

Yep, that’s how they described it on the radio.  Effectively one team relegated from the top division per season to the next tier - the Reals and Barcas of the world making the assumption it won’t be them

Aye, total closed shop and infinite revenue for them big clubs.

It’s a total stitch up then. Qualification has to be based on domestic league performance, anything else is ruinous to football.

Aye, in their proposal two teams get relegated and promoted from each of the top two tiers every year. 20 out of 32 clubs from the bottom tier gets relegated each season.

On top of it becoming pretty much a closed shop, it also killa off most interest in the domestic leagues, as out 4th place finish last season would have meant nowt. Sure, there would still be a fight for the title, but things like top 4/top6 and possibly rewards for cup competetions becomes meaningless.

It's an absolute shit show, only there for the likes of Real Madrid and Barca to ensure they get their top dollars every season.

Yep,

The thing that allows them to be a "big club" is their domestic league [emoji38].

In a super league, will their fans be happy with potentially being bottom half or rock bottom every season?

US sports have salary caps, and other weird stuff like worst performing clubs getting first choice in drafts etc

The home of red-in-tooth-and-claw is oddly egalitarian with this, but also operates closed-shop franchise models.

They are proposing salary caps with the super league.

So what happens if you finish bottom of the 'blue' league  and what happens if you win the domestic league?

You go into a new European Super Cup that you have to win 3 times before being allowed into the Super Nonce League.

If Newcastle went to join these greedy cunts - it would be me done as well.  Let the likes of Barca, Real, Juve, Man United, Liverpool, Chelsea, PSG fuck off to do their own thing. Newcastle stay put.

Disagree. I don't see any need for a Euro Super League, we already have one called the Champions League. But if it's inevitable then we need to be part of it.

I think officially it’s Barca and real right? They are the ones desperate for it.

so much for the socios and fan owned clubs eh?

Anything involving that complete shit bag of a human being, Florentino Perez, is a bad idea. The reason I know there is no God is the fact that not only does Perez exist but he wallows in money and power. In a just world he’d be riddled by cancer, AIDS and every other ailment known to man.

Domestic performance being (basically) the only way to qualify, combined with FFP, is exactly the issue with UEFA competitions.

Unclear, but no doubt if it were possible then several English clubs would already be in the top tier.

The PL will boot anyone out who joins anyway, so the whole thing is moot.  UEFA won’t abolish their competitions, and the FA holds the gift of UEFA qualifications.   So a Super League, if it existed, would likely exist parallel to UEFA Comps, with none of those in the Super League in UEFA comps and potentially not in their domestic leagues.

Ive never heard of a more obvious non-starter.
