It comes and goes into the limelight, there's been tons of attempts earlier to make it the new standard, and it has always eventually failed. And it will again, 'cause it's a shit gimmick. That being said, if used right it's great, which Avatar is evidence of. It's just that it will never be used right, just overused because "LOLZ 3D ROCKZ!!11!!1oneone!!1!".
