gazza ladra
Some time ago a thread got side-tracked by a debate as to whether Stoke City was a shit club or not. People took one side or another of the debate citing the club's history, their attendence, the "virtues" of their fans, etc. I got to thinking about whether there were 20 non-shit clubs in England. That is, 20 clubs that I'd want to see in the top flight. If you could choose the 20 clubs in the Premier League, which one's would you choose and why? 1) Newcastle United 2) Sunderland 3) Manchester United 4) Manchester City 5) Everton 6) Liverpool 7) Leeds United 8) Aston Villa 9) Arsenal 10) Tottenham 11) West Ham United 12) Chelsea --- 13) Boro 14) Wolves 15) Norwich 16) Derby 17) Birmingham 18) Sheffield United 19) Stoke City 20) Hull City Personally, I couldn't come up with 20 that I genuinely wanted in the top flight though there were plenty that I wanted to go away--Wigan, Bolton, Blackburn. After 12, I just rounded out the list based on (perceived) attendence. So I don't think you could have a top flght without some crap clubs in the mix. The best you could hope for is clubs that draw reasonably well, represent different regions, or perserve some derbies. Is it important that all of England is represented? Are derbies important? cubaricho
I'd probably add Nottingham Forest and Cardiff (even though they are Welsh) in place of Hull and Stoke to start off with.
AliGupter
Middlesbrough have no place in there, have never done anything of note, pathetic little club.

WarrenBartonCentrePartin
both Sheffield clubs, Forest, Coventry, and Leeds would be in my list, the rest would probably be similar give or take a few. The reason? Purely nostalgic purposes as they were some of the clubs knocking about in the top flight when I first started following football. madras
if things like virtues of their fans come into it then the likes of shrewsbury and rochdale, stockport, bury and hereford must pick up massive points. 20 clubs i'd want to see in the top flight....i'd choose 20 clubs whose fans have turned up year after year knowing they were never in for any sort of success. Disco
I guess you'd have a top lot of (no particular order): Man United Man City Arsenal Tottenham Chelsea Arsenal Newcastle Liverpool Everton Villa Leeds Mackems then an interchanging mass of: Forest/Derby/Leicester Ipswich/Norwich Blackburn/Burnley/PNE So'ton/Pompey WBA/Wolves Sheff U/Sheff W Stoke/Boro West Ham/Fulham/QPR Plymouth/Birmingham
QBG
1) Newcastle United 2) Sunderland 3) Man Utd 4) Man City 5) Chelsea 6) Arsenal 7) Tottenham 8) Liverpool 9) Everton 10) Aston Villa 11) West Ham 12 Birmingham 13) Fulham 14) West Brom 15) Nottingham Forest 16) Wolves 17) Leeds United 18) Sheffield United 19) Sheffield Wednesday 20) Norwich Easy, just omit most of the shit from the bottom half and fill as appropriate. I'd like to fo fitted Stoke in their for theirs fans really, but I can't honestly say I'd rather have them in there then the teams I have got in there already. I'd be a lot happier with the Stoke, Sheff Wed, Cardiff, Sheff Utd, Norwich, Palace end of thing than the Wigan, Boro, Blackburn, Bolton side empty stadiums.
