Ha. £2 million? After they got 35 for Andy Carroll? They havin a laff?

Mugging off is an understatement.

We know they have £35m, we can keep putting the price up.

Damn, looks like the 'we spent it all on a borehole' ruse isn't working.

The same lot that were poised to give us our 'real welcome' to The Championship, no doubt. Obviously they've forgotten the fact they sold their star talent to Wigan Athletic for £3m.

And what a welcome it was. They should be grateful for £2m :lol:

3m to get great young backup for either fullback positions would be fantastic business, not least because both Clyne and Taylor are both very highly rated.

Would be delighted with Clyne, think he would really push Simpson at right back while at the same time dispelling the need to ever play Raylor there and give Tavernier a needed crack in the championship/league one on loan.

Would be suprised if we are in for him though, he does tick all the boxes but it seems to be too logical, im sure they can stick with Raylor, Saylor, Tavernier and Simpson all being able to play at RB on paper.

Best has the footwork of a lower division player so I can understand why people don't rate him. He looks positively clumsy at times. He does know where the goal is though and puts them away if the cameo from last season was anything to go by. I'd rather have him as a back up striker than Shola.

If we could combine the two we'd have a great player:

Best is highly motivated to work (banging on Pardew's door), is seemingly finally good at putting the ball in the net, and is a decent header of the ball;

Shola is very calm under pressure, has classy footwork and tricks to make himself room in a crowded box, scores a perfect penalty (even under the pressuire of playing the mackems), and can set up goals .

I would be pretty gutted if we spent £2m+ on a 5th choice right back, fail to see their logic there.

5th choice right back?  :lol:

Yep,  he wouldn't get in ahead of Simpson, Perch and the Taylors apparently.

Personally I would have him in direct competition with Simpson and it would hopefully give little Danny the kick up the arse he needs.

Whilst the arguments and debates will continue as to how much we have been/should be spending of the Andy Carroll if we have marked some of that for a new striker (Erdinic) and Nzogbia (even though it is only around half of what was brough in).  If offloading the likes of Ranger, Routledge and Lua Lua (and getting rid of some wages for Smith) will enable us to bring in some young, talented full back potential in Neil Taylor and Clyne it will still have been a pretty successful transfer window even without a marquee signing.

Clyne would be an excellent buy. If we got him then for this season he would be number 2 choice RB, however he has more potential than Simpson and could easily go on to be an established RB and a regular in the England squad, anything under £5m would be a bargain.
