I think he will splash the cash in the summer. What about bringing the evil Denis Wise to the club ? Or plastering the hideous red and blue sports direct logo all over St James's ? Barton's not a CM anymore, and Guthrie and Smith can effectively be replaced/upgraded by Championship players. I'd still quite like to see Barton get a proper go alongside Tiote in the middle with a competent team around him and see how he does. On 12 July 2007, it was confirmed by the media that Matuidi had agreed to join AS Saint-Étienne after agreeing to a four-year deal with the club. That would mean that his contract runs out this summer? From what I've read about him he'd be great competition for Tiote, and great cover during the ACON as he's played for the full France side. It would - but he have had his contract extended. St Etienne midfielder Blaise Matuidi has signed a contract extension with Les Verts until 2013.
