NUFC transfer rumours in the press

I know we'd all prefer to have players in as soon as possible but there is still a lot of business yet to happen in this transfer window for all clubs. Scanning through the article below it seems a large number of the Premiership Clubs transfers so far have been free transfers. Most clubs 'Out' lists are bigger than their 'In' lists too.

Aye, interesting read really, aren't many clubs spending big at all so far. People should probably remember this.

Kerrison's goal record isn't actually that bad according to wiki.

Years Team Apps† (Gls)†

2006–2009 Coritiba 63 (33)

2009 Palmeiras 7 (5)

2009– Barcelona 0 (0)

2009–2010 → Benfica (loan) 5 (0)

2010 → Fiorentina (loan) 10 (2)

2010–2011 → Santos (loan) 13 (4)

Not really fair to judge on odd apps here and there, though. Regular football is a necessity for a young player.

odd, been a fair few chunks of cash thrown at clubs but not really spent it, Villa have quite a bit of the Young and Downing cash left Blackburn have barely spent despite that Jones cash going in pretty early, and of coarse us

"His name was chosen by his father, as a tribute to rock musician Jim Morrison from The Doors and Keith Richards from Rolling Stones"

Heroic parenting.

So he could have been called 'Jichards'.

Douglas -

Striker chase seems a bit confused - early targets have gone so new name in Sunday Sun today has been talked about #NUFC

Nothing imminent on that front, but as Obertan & Barnetta moves prove: things can change quickly. Links later

On Kerrison, by the way, it was being played down when I asked about him. Internet rumour? Will be someone more substantial IMO #NUFC

Not Bendtner, Huntelaar. Sturridge possible. Was always told it was Continental targets but now Brits on radar too

Not many clubs have sold a player worth £35m to have funds available to buy experienced players

Exactly Bruce got that cash injection at mote or less the same time and has managed to spend most of it (albeit on players I wouldn't want)

I we buy obertan and a decent striker for decent money (8mil) I will be 'satisfied with the level of investment'

They've spent the Henderson money, what about the Bent money, Villa have spent a percentage of the Young and Downing cash which people also say they spent on Bent, where did their Milner money go?

Forgot about the Henderson money! I think the 2 clubs in question have had a couple of seasons when they spent quite significantly which hasn't happened here

Snippet in here:

"And the Sunday Sun understands that striker could be Spurs hitman Roman Pavyluchenko.....There is nothing imminent on the striker front but Newcastle have added Russian hitman Pavyluchenko to a list of strikers being considered – plus a few Continental names.

The Sunday Sun understands that the club have changed tack in the market from the start of the summer after many of their targets moved elsewhere – with British-based alternatives now coming into play.

The blow of missing out on Mevlut Erdinc has influenced that re-think, and while moves for Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe look unlikely, it is understood they ARE still being discussed."

Valencia tempt new Toon skipper Coloccini with Champions League football

By Ben Lyttleton

Last updated at 10:11 PM on 6th August 2011

Newcastle United's tricky pre-season could get worse as new captain Fabricio Coloccini is considering an approach from Valencia.

Coloccini was given the armband after previous captain Kevin Nolan moved to West Ham, but his agent has claimed he is keen to play Champions League football for the Spanish team.

'Valencia are insisting on signing Coloccini, but Newcastle have just named him captain, which is something that hasn't happened before,' said Fernando Lombilla.

'So it's very complicated. They love him in England and he even has a song they sing about him, which lasts a few minutes.

'But in a sporting sense, Valencia is a bigger opportunity - and they're in the Champions League.

'Therefore, there will be a conflict between the emotional and the professional.'

Boss Alan Pardew has a lack of cover at centre-back, with only Steven Taylor and Mike Williamson competing to play alongside Coloccini.
