VI, what's the latest injury news on Xavi? Is he expected to be fully fit in time?

Is Navas a certainty? Obviously he's had his problems and they are supposedly sorted now but surely it would still be a big risk, a month (hopefully) in South Africa he may not be able to deal with...

I really don't know. I suppose he's fine if he's made himself available. He can always take his mam with him anyway.

Capello has launched the "Capello Index", an online venture where he will rate the players performances during the World Cup and in the league next season! Joe Cole won't be included in the 30 man squad but Owen Hargreaves who's played 1 minute in 19 months will! So says George Caulkin in Tuesday's Times.

I've not been keeping that up to date with Spain's 'recent' matches, would I be right in expecting the same midfield as 2008 (Silva Xavi Senna Iniesta) or could Fabregas, Alonso or possibly even Busquets take Senna's role? He's getting on a bit now...

Can't see Senna starting, his legs are gone now. It will either be Xabi Alonso/Busquets depending on the opposition, although I expect Senna to be in the final squad even if only used sparingly, we just don't have anybody with that physicality in midfield.

Javi Martínez could certainly do a very good job as DM, but might be too soon for him.

Joe Cole should go, be disappointed if he doesn't. Hargreaves is a massive risk. Still, gotta trust Fabio.

You just don't have any English player that gives what Hargreaves would. Even if it's a risk I'm pretty sure Capello will take him in his preliminary squad even if only to judge his fitness himself.

Can somebody tell me why we keep calling Dani Güiza, it's not like he's scoring 15+ every season and he has absolutely nothing interesting to his game. Rather had Soldado in there, heck, even Bojan would have been better.

Agreed, although he did well in Euro 2008 he's not exactly done a lot since for club or country, Fernando Llorente is a better option albeit a different player, as would be Bojan, and I'm slightly surprised Bojan hasn't been called up to be honest, considering his recent form. 14 in 35 this season considering he's used sparingly is fantastic.

Understatement, Bojan could do damage.

Not taking Joe Cole is a farce tbh. Not even good enough for the preliminary squad?

Capello is looking at in-form players, who have had a good season. Saying that, Carragher is apparently getting in the squad.

VI: No Arteta. :(

...and then I see who he's up against, once again. Has Senna had a good season? In all truth there was never really any chance of Arteta getting into even the 30 man squad really was there?

It also appears Nigeria have decided midfielders and forwards need not be differentiated, so expect a 4-0-6 formation from the Super Eagles, with Etuhu being the key striker.

Senna hasn't had a good season, although his form and fitness has picked up a little in the past six months. But Arteta isn't competing with Senna, but with Iniesta, Silva, Cesc, Xavi...

I would be surprised if he doesn't finally pick up his cap after the WC, however.
