The 23 year-old Devonian returned to training at Darsley Park on Wednesday but like the recently-departed James Perch, is now in the final year of his Magpies deal and there's no prospect of a contract extension. Gosling had been predicted to depart on loan in the near future but the decision to cash in on him now appears to have been taken - whether that's a change in policy since the arrival of JFK remains to be seen. Talk of a £1m switch is doing the rounds, although Sky Sports went with the usual undisclosed fee. Eagles fan sites meanwhile are speculating that personal terms have already been agreed and a medical is imminent. Gosling began his career with Plymouth Argyle and was handed a senior debut in 2006 by Pilgrims manager Ian Holloway, who is now in charge at Selhurst Park. Joining United on a free transfer in July 2010 following a contractual row with Everton, Gosling was in the early stages of recovering from a knee injury sustained some three months earlier. A belated debut came in January 2011 but that proved to be a fleeting return and it wasn't until the following August that his senior team second outing came. Grabbing a consolation goal in a 1-3 defeat at Manchester City in November 2011, Gosling made his only league start a month later, but blotted his copybook with a red card in a 2-4 reverse at Norwich City. A trio of starts in the early weeks of last season came in the Europa League and League Cup before an ankle injury sidelined him once again. Pilko Posted July 7, 2013 Share Posted July 7, 2013 The optimist in me likes to think we're creating wage space for some decent signings: Gosling - replacement will be Bigi/Anita/Vuckic as he never plays Perch - Sissoko to play a more orthodox midfield role/Anita playing more Harper - Alnwick becomes third choice Xisco - was on mega money which we're finally shot of Simpson - Tavernier/Santon/Anita to become right-back cover Or am I just hoping too much?
