Hatem Ben Arfa

all this formation talk and who'll get dropped for him etc is boring.  Simple fact is that should this signing go through it gives the manager some more options in a small squad.  It will mean we have Routledge, Jonas and HBA who are comfortable playing on either the left or right (could also add Lua lua as well) and signing HBA also gives the coach the option of playing behind the striker instead of Nolan.  Players will get injured/suspended and we need options for when that happens.  Lets worry about where he'll play and instead of which player when he's signed and available for selection.  Another good win against Wolves this week and HBA could well be on the bench anyway and have to wait a few weeks to get into the team.........

All or nothing?, sounds like Robert :)

Sorry for my english.

It's not the same player, ben arfa is much better.

He can be the future idol at newcastle

That was meant as a compliment :), I know he's a different kind of player.  But as far as attitude "all or nothing" describes Robert perfectly, luckily his all was fucking incredible.

Good sides-

They're exactly the same only Barton plays 10 yards further forward at home... ???

Its more about Barton being more defence minded away from home

:D

You missed off the FM arrows. ;)

I don't think any Marseille fan considers praising a former PSG player a compliment.  O0

If he's anything near what Robert was I'll love him. Robert was one of my absolute favourites at his time here.

Same here. His performances in 2001/02 were nothing short of world class. A threat no matter who we played.

big difference form what i've seen is that robert was always ready to get a shot off (even when he shouldn't) where as ben arfa gets criricised for holding onto the ball to long, foregoing the shot or pass.

No offence mate, and thanks for posting, but I don't think anyone outside of Newcastle realised how good Laurent Robert was.

Robert it's good player but it's not the same talent that ben arfa.

Yeah. I was saying both different versions are pretty good for home and away performances. Hence "good sides"

At his best he was a great player, but I agree they're different players with different abilities.  He didn't have the ability with the ball that Ben Arfa has, but his shooting/crossing was the best I've ever seen.

Having been concerned, I'm now very pleased. It's a gamble, but if it's a loan deal we've effectively got him on trial.

I don't doubt the guy's talent. It's a question of whether Hughton can persuade him to use that talent wisely for the team, and also how well he can settle with the other personalities in the dressing room. (I suggest that someone makes him aware of Joey's police record.)

I actually think it's a good opportunity for the player. We're not a top side, but we're on the way up and if he does well he'll be a hero. He seems the sort of lad that seeks out that kind of status, and providing he earns it rather than expects it as a right, he should do okay.
