Given the length of time he's been out, it's ludicrous to expect him to pull up trees this season. This season will be about getting back to playing on a regular basis. Any talk of him being the cornerstone of the team is ludicrous. He's lucky he can still play at all.

Too much pressure and hope is being heaped on the lad.

You say he's lucky he can play at all, but can he? A pre season game against Darlington is hardly proof of that.

the very reason he cited for moving was that he was under too much pressure to perform at his former club

The looney negativity continues

I'm starting to think this too. He'll come back, play 3 more games, then PING hamstring gone.

Why would that happen then?  He's been put out by two terrible tackles, not by a Kieron Dyer like hamstring explosion.

while i wouldnt go as far as adam, a muscle strain or two is par for the course after being out of competitive football for so long

Got a feeling ol hatems waiting for me to return from a cruciate ligament injury so we can come back and tear up the football world together. :coolsmiley: come back date is mid october.

We've missed you, I hope you come back as strong as you were pre-injury.

If he's brought back too early or played too much too early that could cause another injury yeah.  Just thought he was talking about the "Ben Arfa is injury prone" myth.

He's still able to keep his fitness up, he got a twisted ankle, he's not in a wheel chair. Of course he might not be 100% but im sure he'll be quite fit when his ankle has healed and got stronger.

Not like he's at square one again.

In fact the situation with HBA is pretty simple. I explain : this isn't really a question of pressure to my mind.

It only depends on him and on his willing to show to all his detractors that they were wrong about him.

I don't know if you know but he is really followed in France, even too much, i mean the medias were (and will be) "spying" on all of his actions.

You just don't have to fall on the trap, that is to say to think he will be straight excellent when he comes back.

He'll need time BUT like all other players who would have suffered from such an injury.

Finally, like i said in the beginning, it will above all depend on him : if he had grown up and is a professional player (in all its meanings), he will obviously succeed in your club. I mean he could be absolute fantastic if he adds to his genuine talent the work which is needed, like a little c ronaldo !

BUT if he had stayed the same (naive) player with a bad character, who do not train hard every day in the trainings, he won't succeed unfortunately. And he'll show (to me for example) that he wasn't the player i tought he was... And i think that if the second option will realise, i won't follow him any more.

A lot of people in France, from every club, rely on him to be in the France squad for the Euro 2012 and, of course to succeed in Newcastle United.

He is the only player who can make so easily people get up from their chairs during a match... So it will be such a waste if he didn't succeed.

The only issue I can see about his return is your "average fan" who goes to SJP, may not show him the patience that he'll need to get his game back to full swing. As there's very few footballers I've seen who were able to come straight out of the blocks after being out for so long. Shearer was a rare breed, as when he'd normally return after such a long lay-off, he'd get back into things straight away as he was so strong mentally. Owen was a totally different example, even when he was at Liverpool. It normally took him a while to find his form and confidence again.

So I do hope the fans get him time, and don't expect too much too soon from him. Especially as he's the type of player we love up here. We certainly haven't had anybody in our team for a while who could get the fans on their feet every time they had the ball. Martins in his first season, could do that to an extent, but not consistently or to the same standard that players like Robert, Ginola or Beardsley could.

Hopefully he comes back and player that we only saw glimpses of. As even when he came on against Blackpool, he looked a class apart.

HBA just needs to win the mental battle now,  hopefully he can because sadly if he doesn't i fear he'll only be 70% of the player he was before the injury.  Got to say the lad has been horrendously unlucky,  that tackle he got in America was a shocker and unfortunately resulted in a really bad twist to his ankle of his previously injured leg.

Good post, case in point for the first paragraph, Dan Gosling.  Everyone I've spoken to after the Scunny game were telling me how shit he is, waste of time not good enough as back up etc etc  :nope:

On another note, shall we all chip in a fiver to hire a hitman...actually make that a fiver per hitman.

1. Facking Fat Cant

2.Nigel De Jong

3. A one on standby for the next basterd that decides the only way he can beat HBA is to snap his fecking leg.

Hatem Ben Arfa due back with Newcastle

HATEM Ben Arfa is due back on Tyneside this weekend.

Newcastle United’s playmaker has been in Paris since damaging his ankle but has been making regular visits to London to link up with the United medical team via Eurostar.

The ex-Marseille ace is again running on the ankle he injured during Newcastle’s tour of the United States earlier this summer.

The French international is also “optimistic” he will be back sooner rather than later.

Sensibly, though, the Magpies have decided not to put an official comeback date on his return.

Yet that does not mean the skilful 24-year-old is holding back from the ankle problem he sustained in Kansas City in July.

The player’s advisor Simon Stainrod told the Chronicle from his Cannes base: “Hatem has always had the capacity to play sooner rather than later.

“He will be back as quick as the medical team around him deem sensible.

“I know he is optimistic about playing soon and is making good progress.

“He had the horrific experience of his broken leg last season but he is made of sterner stuff.”

One date for Ben Arfa’s comeback date that had been mooted was the trip to Wolves on October 1.

However, Stainrod said: “He is running again now and he will take it from there.

“The aftercare he has received from the specialists in Paris and the Newcastle United medical team has been different class.”

Stainrod also revealed Ben Arfa had been flying until he hit trouble in Kansas.

Former Strasbourg star Stainrod added: “He had been coming out in running tests with top results.

“He will be looking to get involved as soon as possible after Newcastle’s good start.

“Knowing Yohan Cabaye and Sylvain Marveaux he will be looking forward to playing with them.

“Once they get into their stride Newcastle could be playing 90mph stuff.

“They ae not afraid to take risks with their passing and they will want to link up together.”
