Tiresias
Jol has a terrible reputation in Europe for awful man management, so would be skeptical
AlanSkÃrare
He's seemed more of a support striker to me. Very interesting player. Thats what i thought of Ryan Luiz as well.... Martin is constructing a good team skillful players.. Would have loved Jol to manage us , his team always play some Canny footy Bryan Ruiz, and his "canny footy" hasn't won them a single game yet. I have no idea why you would want to change manager right now, no other manager would put up with the s*** that Pardew agreed to put up with when he took the job. We're lucky he's turning out decent. Might have learnt one or two things since he was in the Premiership last time around.
Rich
“He shows flashes of brilliance in training but I want him to do it more often before I bring him in.” “Now it is a matter of when he is ready. “He keeps smiling at me as if to say, ‘OK, I will play next week’ and there will be times in the coming weeks when he will be kicking my door down if he has not made a start. “But realistically he knows he has more to do on the training ground.” http://www.dailystar.co.uk/football/view/212384/Hatem-Ben-Arfa-warned-it-will-be-weeks-until-line-up/ I just know people are going to love these. At least he's back on with the "door down" and "smiling" bits though, eh?

A place on the bench, a cameo experience, ease him in after such a long layoff and as he not only builds strength, but builds confidence in his legs. Makes sense he's only still showing flashes now, I'd expect him to be in the lineup within 2-3 weeks, until then, bench and impact sub makes perfect sense to me. Cronky
I don't know if it's been mentioned, but Pardew is saying he doesn't want to play him on the wing - that he's much more effective inside. Makes sense. Give him as much of the ball as possible, and don't let him become peripheral to the action.
Lush Vlad
Are those Daily Star quotes from the press conference then? Any mention of him being in the squad Saturday? More smiling and door related quotes
The College Dropout
I'm not sure I like the idea of a #10 in modern football. For a variety of reasons. Will wait and see though.

Care to explain further? If anything, I think the bog standard 4-4-2 is going out of fashion, and 4-3-3/4-2-3-1/4-4-1-1 is more popular and arguably more effective. AyeDubbleYoo
I think the only main problem with the number ten is that he can be too much of a focus of the whole team's play. Even Van Der Vaart disrupts Spurs' play to a certain extent IMO. With HBA and the other midfielders we've got I'm not sure it's such an issue for us though. He's very direct and focused on going past people, and the other midfielders around him can also threaten the opposition.
STM
As you say the key is to not focus the ball on one player, regardless of how good he is. In fact it's important that we use the wide areas of the pitch to create space for players like Ben Arfa to exploit. Cabaye will be the most important player in this regard. I wish there were more "number 10s." I grew up in an era that had Roberto Baggio & Dennis Bergkamp. So it's an element that I really miss from the modern game. Yep, as long as Cabaye and Tiote still utilise Marveaux, Jonas and Obertan enough we shouldn't be caught in the trap of always getting it to Be Arfa. I'm really excited about our midfield at the moment like, potentially the best we've had for ages.

I still think it can be an invaluable position when you have the right player in there, although the traditional version is undoubtedly less effective now that so many teams field a specialist defensive midfielder to plug the gap in between the lines. If he's allowed just to drift into space wherever it may be and pull people all over he could completely change the way we play, he also has to be willing to get into the box and beyond the striker too though. Think they call it a "false 10" these days, don't they? Where Ozil played for Germany in the World Cup and VDV played for Spurs last season?
Guest Dontooner
Quite Fascinating, as we create a team either by sheer luck or by shrewd intelligence to accommodate a false number 9 in the team. Having Nolan, Barton,Shola, Carroll and the likes of Alan Smith surrounding Arfa. Will really put alot of pressure on him wih their lack of movement and skill. Since then continental players have being brought in to fit the system , Cabaye, Tiote , Obertan , Marvx etc The dead weights are gone, and the possibilities of having a team that could move the ball around excitingly is there. Honestly, i have never been so excited by the possibilities of the players since Sir Bobby left
