"foul" for the free kick was him going in across Agger with his wrong leg. They're often given even when you get the ball. He didn't track Gerrard's run for the clincher which is probably a bigger mistake.

Tiote's still not back up to speed, but we have much bigger problems on both flanks.

What? It wasn't a foul, it can't be 'usually given'

From where I was standing it never looked a foul.

Same from the TV view - you can clearly see a foot on the ball and it change direction. I was screaming at the telly that he won the ball.

Knew straight away they'd score from it.

My dad and i both shouted "great tackle" as soon as he went in. And that was from the TV coverage, too. Was as clear as f***ing day that he got the ball.

Yup, same here I got up for a drink and turned round and liverpool had a free kick.  The ref totally bought the superman dive.  Im not going to stress over iot, we never get fuck all at Anfield.

I wasn't expecting anything.

It's the same old story with Tiote, when he keeps it simple, wins it and passes it off short he's fantastic. It's when he tries to do too much that he looks dodgy. The problem is we're lacking creativity and a plan to get up the pitch so he's seeing too much of the ball.

Not getting booked was 100% on his mind and it affected his game, clean slate now vs Man Ure and he will be getting fitter every game.

I fully expect a monumental Tiote performance from him.

Just in time for Man U, to make up their mind about him and snap him up.

Cheick Tiote: Manchester United is my last game

by Lee Ryder, Evening ChronicleDec 31 2011

CHEICK TIOTE has revealed he expects the clash with Manchester United on Wednesday night to be his last in a black and white shirt before heading off to the African Cup of Nations in Guinea and Gabon.

The African today told the Chronicle that he believes he will be summoned by the Ivory Coast to be part of a pre-tournament training camp in Abu Dhabi.

The visit to Dubai will also include warm-up games with Tunisia and Libya on January 13 and 17 respectively before games wth Angola, Burkino Faso and Sudan in Group B.

United boss Alan Pardew had been hoping to retain the services of Tiote and Senegal striker Demba Ba until January 15 – so news of Tiote’s earlier than expected exit is a blow.

But Pardew is keeping an eye on the situation surrounding Yaya and Koule Toure at Manchester City with Roberto Mancini in a battle with the Ivorians to hold on to the valuable pair until the middle of January.

Newcastle want to have Tiote and Ba available for the Manchester United game on Wednesday, the FA Cup third-round tie with Blackburn Rovers and the home Premier League clash with Joey Barton’s Queens Park Rangers.

But Tiote told the Chronicle today: “Maybe after the Man United game, I will go.

“We have a training camp in Abu Dhabi and I may have to go to that.

“It is hard for me I want to play for my country and I want to stay here and play for Newcastle.

“I just hope we do well while I am away. We have some tough games and we need to start taking more points.” At Anfield last night, Tiote only managed to half-clear for Craig Bellamy’s equaliser and was harshly adjudged to have tugged Daniel Agger for the free-kick that led to the Welshman’s powerful second strike.

Understandably, Tiote was downbeat on his way out of Anfield and he said: “The first half was OK because we scored the first goal and after that we still played well.

“But then we conceded one bad goal. And after it we lost confidence and we stopped doing things right.

“From that we scored another goal and that is a problem.”

Newcastle will check out of 2011 in seventh spot with a satisfactory tally of 30 points so far in their second season since promotion from the Championship.

Yet Tiote believes that it could be more.

The African went on: “We are really, really disappointed about what happened at Liverpool.

“I really don’t know what to say about it.

“We have lost a game we could have won.”

Tiote and Newcastle can start 2012 in style but they will go into the home game against the champions Manchester United as second favourites.

Nevertheless, ex-FC Twente man Tiote wants to head away on international duty with the Ivory Coast with a bang.

He said: “Maybe it is best to forget about this one because we have a game at home to Manchester United.

“All we can do is focus on that. I want to go out on a high.”

Newcastle United fight to keep Cheick Tiote for FA Cup clash

by Stuart Rayner, The JournalJan 4 2012

NEWCASTLE United are still negotiating for Cheick Tioté to play in Saturday’s FA Cup third-round tie with Blackburn Rovers.

Fifa rules state countries can demand their players 14 days before the African Cup of Nations.

As the tournament in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea starts on January 21, Newcastle would be powerless to stop Ivorian Tioté and Senegalese Demba Ba being taken from them.

However, with various Premier League clubs haggling over when their stars will be released, Alan Pardew is seeking clarification from the Football Association about which country will call its players up when.

He said: “There is some debate about it. We have Blackburn on Saturday and we are in contact to suggest what has been decided with every other club because it has to be fair.

“We only have a two-day turnaround which I feel disappointed about but that is how it has crumbled with the TV game (against Manchester United tonight).

“So losing those two players on the back of that would impact on us again.

“We are trying to make sure they are going to play in that (FA Cup) game but we will have to wait and see.” Manchester City are hopeful of having Tioté’s international team-mates the Touré brothers available for Sunday’s Cup tie with Manchester United.

And they are lobbying to keep them for the midweek League Cup semi-final first leg with Liverpool.

It is to the English FA, rather than their Ivorian counterparts, Newcastle are turning.

Pardew, who is less confident on top-scorer Ba, added: “We want to know what has been decided with other clubs, who is eligible to play and are all African Nations’ players going to go – on Saturday morning, or Friday, or Sunday. When is it they have to officially report? We are seeking clarification.”

Ba has a history of knee trouble, while Tioté recently missed seven games with a knee problem.

Pardew said: “We are going to try to monitor Cheick and Demba a little bit as best we can while they are away.

“We are trying to contact their FAs to find out exactly what they are doing and what they are not doing. ”

Asked if Newcastle would consider sending someone to monitor the situation first-hand, Pardew replied: “It is something we have done in the past, we might do that, yeah.”
