If that's the case then they'll have a constructive dismissal case to deal with too. Could easily see them going down, mackem style, unless they get outside investment pronto. Every single club in existence, with the exception of MK Dons and the likes, are an inherent part of the football fabric and should be safeguarded. For an institution like an historical football club - with an enormous fanbase and serious cultural significance - to be dismantled to the point of liquidation, due to the whims of a few absent individuals, is basically a crime imo. Ansell who worked at Villa between 1997 and 2004 has watched the club's decline in recent years with dismay. In an interview with Radio WM, he revealed he is 'sick to his boots' at the mess of the club. He stated: "I imagine that this is more than one monthly payment that they have defaulted on and they will have discussions with the revenue, they would have seen the play-offs as a possible get out of jail free card. "When they didn't win promotion they will have been questioning whether or not they can get their money." Ansell went on to discuss his interpretation of Villa's current finances. He said: "I imagine it is more than one month they have missed because with a salary bill estimated at £60m, that's about £5m a month not including signing on fees that you pay once a year. "The pay as you earn figure for each month on that would be £1.5m a month, so a bill of over £4m means that it is over one month. "Part of the problem here is that before the finals when they looked like they weren't going to reach the play-offs, they were already running at a loss. "You have to question the management of the club when they can't pay their running expenses. "They've gone to the casino, they have rolled the dice and it hasn't worked. "Trevor Birch works for the Insolvency Practice so he will now be in there to remind them of their responsibility. "I would imagine that a club as big as Aston Villa won't go into administration because they will always have people interested. "That would mean that there either has to be a refinancing or even with the current owner if he has the money, if he can't get it out of China then that isn't good for the future. "There probably has to be a change of ownership so that funds can come in to help the club get to where it should be. "I have to go back to the days where Doug Ellis, Steve Stride and I used to sit and discuss the club. "We are sick to our boots as to what has gone on. "Whether it is Lerner, the current regime, it is unbelievable what has happened. "Let's be honest though, this is the culmination of ten years of decline." I'd actually welcome seeing the TV money distribution being less balanced, going more towards the top half. The massive rewards for just being in the Premiership are largely responsible for driving this desperation of clubs to get there. They're also driving the swing away from traditional clubs to less well supported clubs, whose success is just based on being in a desirable location for players to live, that are making is making it more difficult than ever for clubs like ours to stay in the Premiership. The top six may pull even further away if they got a bigger slice of the pie, but it doesn't look like any club is going to break up their stranglehold anyway. BlackandWhite Posted June 6, 2018 Share Posted June 6, 2018 But I would not want a situation where English football has become a monopoly where only a select 3 or four teams are capable of achieving the title due to financial might and another 2 or 3 always get the euro spots with smaller clubs like Burnley seeing their dreams of European football becoming a mere pipe dream. The reason why EPL is considered the best in the is not necessarily because its team are the best. Spain clearly has the best teams around you just need to look at their dominance of European Trophies since 2014 to see that. It’s how competitive the league is that is the big appeal. Dreams do come through in the EPL. A Leicster can win the league, a Burnley can qualify for Europe. Very slim chance of something similar happening to a small club in Spain. If you make the rich richer you run the risk only they can afford quality players and in the long run the competitiveness of the premier leagues that makes it the best in the world is under threat. Devil's advocate; could we not just end up with bottom half PL clubs ending up in the same position as Championship clubs if they overstretch themselves in the hope of breaking into the top six? Can't they just sell one of their half decent players like Kodjia, Grealish or Adomah, make it back to stabilise finances before looking for a buyer? Doesn't seem like dire straits to me...
