Nah, he'll be back on the bench on Sunday. His European goalscoring record is fucking class (admittedly a bit of a 'Crouch for England' i.e. against minnow teams but hey ho), so it makes sense to start him in some of the European away fixtures especially.

If we can do it, others from the city can. We have a big French contingent at the club but ultimately the stars of this team have to come from this area.

It is Newcastle United. It is owned by the city, the people and they want to see local grown players in the team. It is important the club understands that.

I am not saying we are not going to sign foreigners again, but most Geordies would want to see local players in the team.

Not when they play like you and your brother we don't.

Shola running and baked bean head actually on a football pitch.  It's like someone found a picture of a yeti having tea with the tooth fairy.

Not sure if posted but

Shola Ameobi will move a step closer to legendary Newcastle United status if he faces Anzhi Makhachkala on Thursday night. And no one is more surprised than him.

If the 31-year-old Newcastle striker returns from a minor knee injury to face Guus Hiddink's Russian millionaires for the second leg of their Europa League clash at St James Park, it will be his 50th appearance for the club in European competition.

Ameobi, who made his European debut 12 years ago in an Intertoto Cup tie in Lokeren, will move ahead of former captain Alan Shearer if Alan Pardew uses him in the tie which is poised at 0-0 after last week's first leg in Moscow.

He is still 12 behind club record holder Shay Given - and will need another seven short of the former Republic of Ireland keeper if Newcastle reach the Europa League final in Amsterdam - but moving ahead of Shearer is not lost on an adopted Geordie whose European highlight was an appearance, and a goal in the Nou Camp.

Ameobi said: 'It's remarkable really. I didn't know I had played 49 games in Europe in Moscow, I was shocked.

'I didn't know I would overtake Alan. I'm a lucky boy. Every time I have put on the Newcastle shirt I have added myself to the history of the club and that means so much to me. I'm flying the flag for Newcastle and that is so important to me. Now I just want to get us into the last eight, where anything is possible.
