Newcastle United 1 - 2 Stoke City - 26/09/10 - post match reaction from page 31

Whats slightly concerning is the lack of obvious chances we are creating. Other than the pen, only Nolans chance at the end was an exampole of us opening them up.

We were playing Stoke, though. The PL champions of playing ten men behind the ball.

Houghton was tactically outwitted today

I don't think it was so much that Ben Arfa was particularly good (he was merely OK), but his substitution signaled the tactical naivete of Hughton - seeing Ben Arfa's flair as a weakness against Stoke rather than a strength.  And that's why I'm still a bit worried about Huhgton on match day, although I love the man the rest of the week.

This. We kept the ball well in the first half, but didn't really do anything with it. And the second half, well, was just shit.

Yeah, we're not that good at creating something from nothing. Out best line of attack is from our wing play. Routledge & Ben Arfa/Jonas working with the fullbacks to get in behind. Today we couldn't really get in behind them. Particularly in the second half, every time we went forward they had 6+ players behind the ball.

Arsenal struggled against West Brom for the same reasons, unfortunately we don't have a Nasri in the side who can do it all on his own.

And what master plan did Pulis come up with other than the usual bullshit?  Fucking spoilers that's all Stoke are, and their fans need culling.

Enrique cross after being played in by Barton in the first half.

Perch chance late on.

It worries me a lot that we've got so many 'winnable' home games before Christmas and we don't seem to have the first clue how to approach them yet.

yup we could be regretting these results, when we play the likes of Man city etc.

Going to be a lot more of those games before the season is out. Once the away points dry up home form will be paramount. When you look at Birmingham's home form since promotion that is the kind of example we should follow. St Andrews is a tough place to go, St James' should be moreso really.
