Spot on that one. Plain Black shorts (i.e. just puma logo and crest, no white stripes/patterns or owt) and Plain Black Socks with a white turnover, and the strip would be perfect - nice and simple. The old shirt with it's dodgey shoulder pads looks quite good in comparison to the new one. I like the idea of putting the sponsor in one of the stripes. It's a nice break from tradition.
