maybe not daft but then again...

Ashley has determined that he will pay all transfer fees in full.  However, when a player is purchased by installments is interest charged?  I mean, if the clubs agree that the player is worth 11M and the buyer wants to pay over 4 years will they agree upon, say, 12M over the 4 years or will it still remain 11M over the 4 years?

I would think a club would welcome a buyer that wants to pay in full and collect their money in one big chunk rather than smaller payments.

Yes it should give us an advantage with other clubs that we are willing to pay a fee in full (though obviously we'll try and use this to drive down the fee).

The benefit for ourselves is less clear to me but I vaguely remember someone explaining that Ashley preferred a simplified method that put the players initial costs onto one years accounting, especially after coming into a club where he found we were still paying for players brought in under Shepherd which to him seemed a fairly dangerous practice considering the inherent instability of a football clubs finances based on league position.

TBF, his accounting and finance practices - when actuallly spelled out are quite prudent and financially responsible.  However, I just wish he wasn't such a t!t with our club's finances and actually ran us like other football clubs.

Was anyone else stupid enough to head to bed about an hour before the end of the transfer window, and jump on here this morning with the ever-so desperate hope that we'd managed to push at least one signing over the line? Even if it was fucking Ridgewell?
