“His first goal for the senior team in a friendly against Darlington in July 2011 sparked a pitch invasion by jubilant fans“

important to mention

Could have added "..in the aftermath of which, someone was punched by a nonce."

Based on the address and the car, he's clearly not skint, so fuck knows what the apprenticeship stuff is all about.

Fair play to him tbh, whatever the reason. His last contract was a couple of years ago so for all we know he might be clinging to that property and car; wouldn't be the first or last ex-player in that kind of situation. Or he might just want to do something with his time now that he's retired.

I know it shouldn't be the takeaway from the story but I'm now curious to know what the apprenticeship is.

EDIT: Of course as far as the headline goes he's a bloody idiot. Hopefully he's learned his lesson.

70 appearences??!!?? I wouldve thought it would be about 7.

What.....no way. In contrast Les Ferdinand was here 2 years, which also seems ridiculous for different reasons

He’s a good man from a good family.

Indeed.

As a footballer, I think he had some untapped potential. Eddie is so good at developing players, and he may well have had a more successful career under his guidance.
