That's exactly it. We have reached a point now as a club where you just can't get attached to players any more as within about 6 months if they are good enough they are being whored out to other teams and unfortunately we are now seen as a selling club which makes us vulnerable. I dunno like, as much as I dislike the current board I can't help feeling that every other Premier League club below the 'top six' are ultimately in the same boat with regards to transfer policy. It's just a sad indictment of where English football is at at the moment imo.
Ronaldo
Most other clubs aren't so heavily reliant on a few individuals, though. That's what amplifies the loss.

Guest awaymag
isnt there a rule that a player cant move between 3 clubs in one season. Therefore BA isnt going anywhere in January anyway

Tooj
Spurs used to do what we did, yet there comes a point like they did when you can reject bids for your top players if you want to progress as a club.
Ishmael
Most other clubs aren't so heavily reliant on a few individuals, though. That's what amplifies the loss. Considering this is only our second season back in the League, it's not hard to see why we're so reliant on a few. Hopefully, that balance continues to shift now that we have shifted out the old guard and put a strong framework in place. Spurs used to do what we did, yet there comes a point like they did when you can reject bids for your top players if you want to progress as a club. Exactly. We're not there yet, but we are heading in the right direction. Especially now that we have 2 of the best players from France, plus one of Italy's most exciting prospects in our midst. You'd like to think that others would want to follow.

Not when there's £35m sitting somewhere.

Parsley
Spurs used to do what we did, yet there comes a point like they did when you can reject bids for your top players if you want to progress as a club. I think Spurs' ability to reject bids for Modric and the like comes primarily from being around the Champions' League spots and being competitive with the top teams. Until we reach that stage I'd say we're unavoidably vulnerable to losing our best players.
Neil
All I know is you've had a few days where you've destroyed Man Utd 3-0 and you've just got through to the next round of the FA Cup with a last minute winner, and the other being an absolute wonder goal from Ben Arfa. Thought it'd be a time to enjoy things, not talk about the details of the board.
thorin
Yeah and that's the big problem Tooj, as Ba came free, there is a £10 mill profit for Fat Mike. Which I don't see him declining, nor could he. I'm pretty sure he's happy with £10 mill for Ba as it's 10 000 000 more reasons than he came in for. Which makes this a sad fucken thing to bring up, shame on you 'Arry! We might be lucky that the ACN has Ba out for the whole month, which basically means that the BPL -can- have set champions in sight, but there's still the fight for CL. And unfortunately for us, I think Ba would be a great addition to the Spurs team as it stands today

Parsley
Ba could easily fetch upwards of £20 million in today's market on current form. Definitely in the interest of the board to negotiate a new contract if this clause does exist.

Conjo
One of two scenarios will play out: 1) Someone activates the release clause most likely in the summer, and he performs well for his new club 2) Ashley defies the odds and give Ba a new lucrative 5 year contract (w/o low basic wage and high performance based add-ons) and his knees explodes after a few weeks, rendering him a mere shadow of the player we have seen this season and turns into our new Alan Smith.
