They're awful but not hard, small mercies.

 Quick as a flash.

Pretty sure Sewelly's got his own scouting network. I bet there's not a blade of grass on any football pitch, globally, that he doesn't know the height and width of. Or the maiden name of every footballer's wife that has ever lived. Probably.

Geordieland is the best Ba none says Demba

by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle Dec 29 2011

DEMBA BA believes the “friendly” lifestyle in Newcastle is helping him discover some of the best form of his career.

The United star – confirmed in the Senegal squad for the African Cup of Nations in Guinea and Gabon – sampled life in London with West Ham United last term before landing a move to Tyneside this summer in what has turned out to be one of the best free transfer signings ever made at St James’ Park.

However, Ba feels the warm reception given to him by the Toon Army has inspired him to sizzling exploits in front of goal.

Ba told the Chronicle: “I like living in Newcastle, very much.

“It is a very simple life for me. I am at home with my family and I can just chill some days for the whole day.

“When I want to go out and do some stuff, I can do that as well.

“People here are more friendly than aggressive, so life is all right for me here.”

The Senegal ace has worked up a fantastic understanding with Alan Pardew since arriving last summer and has also emerged as one of the leaders of the team.

Born in Servres in France, Ba has helped to gel together the club’s French union.

Gabriel Obertan is starting to find his feet, Hatem Ben Arfa is nearing 100% fitness and Yohan Cabaye is proving to be another shrewd signing, while Sylvain Marveaux will be looking to make his comeback in the new year.

Ba added: “The French players have settled in, but it is about the team here.

“We just have to continue what we have been doing, we have not been playing badly.

“Every game we go into we think we can win.

“The best thing to do is keep quiet and just do our jobs! If we do that we can take the three points.”

Ba finds himself near the top of the Premier League hot-shot chart but also near the summit of the European golden shoe table – in an impressive sixth place.

Only Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Robin Van Persie, Mario Gomez and Klass Jan Huntelaar have more.

Ba said: “I never thought I would have so many.

“I am always working for them, the work I am doing you can see it in on the pitch on a match day. I have to be satisfied with it.”

Feeling confident, Ba now has a handful of United games left before he heads to the African Cup of Nations with Senegal.

However, he puts his 14-goal haul down to nothing but good old- fashioned hard work on the training fields of Benton.

He said: “The goals are not just down to confidence, they are down to work put in during the week.

“When you are scoring goals you get the ball automatically, I am always trying to take the chances I have.”

Even before Ba’s confirmation in the Senegal squad, the player demonstrated his modesty by stating “if selected” to every question about the winter tournament in Gabon and Guinea.

He backed the team to do well without him before insisting he is not finished just yet.

Ba concluded: “There are still games to play before I go off to the Cup.

“I hope the team will be fine.”

8/1 on betfred and they are doing their double delight/hat trick heaven special on the game

Bellamy, Carroll, Kuyt, maxi and Gerrard are all shorter prices than Ba

What do they know that we don't?  Surely there has to be a reason for those odds.  Has Pardew said he's definitely starting?
