STRIKER Demba Ba holds the key to any emotional return to Tyneside for Liverpool’s £35million man Andy Carroll.

 

 

Only if Ba’s release clause – under which he can leave for £7m – is activated by Tuesday’s midnight deadline will Newcastle United make a move for their ex-striker.

 

Newcastle are powerless to prevent Senegal international Ba’s people talking to interested parties until the end of July.

 

It is understood a couple of clubs in Russia and Turkish giants Galatasaray are involved in talks to sign the popular St James’ Park striker.

 

Newcastle want Ba to stay and are prepared to offer him an improved contract.

 

Once Tuesday night’s deadline has passed the ball is back in their court over whether he leaves, with the transfer fee being set by the Newcastle hierarchy.

 

 

If Ba is tempted away in the next 48 hours through the promise of a large slice of the current £7m fee then the Geordies will look at bringing Carroll back.

Precisely. He wouldn't be here if it was as cut-and-dry as that, simple. Whether it was another top half team wanting to make him their top striker, or just a cash-rich club stock-piling - someone would have taken him off our hands.

I too prefer Ba but lets not pretend its such a nobrainer as someone makes out.

We wouldn't get £40m for Cabaye but he is at least twice the player Henderson is

 

Saying Ba is 10 times the player Carroll is was going over the top but imo he is clearly better.
