Sylvain Marveaux - arrested

I seem to remember him being signed primarily as "competition" to Jonas. I pretty much expect that to be pretty much the case next season too, though I would really like to see Marveaux in the team - he has looked good from what I've seen (good crossing, good technique, canny passing). You never know, he could even take Jonas' place (not that I want Jonas out of the team btw).........we shall see.

Really hope his injury problems are now properly behind him and I also hope he gets a chance next season. Definitely not writing him off (like some of mates have done).

Not sure if I would risk him this season now, maybe only if we really need him..i would have him on the mend and building himself up in the summer, ready for the season.

Aye, I say don't risk him now. Just let him get ready for pre-season.

Chron:

Sylvain Marveaux could return to boost Euro push

NEWCASTLE UNITED boss Alan Pardew could yet be boosted by the return of winger Sylvain Marveaux in time for the Magpies’ European push.

The Frenchman had admitted last month that he may not play again this season.

But the Chronicle understands that former Rennes man Marveaux is making “good progress” and may be back at the start of next month to bolster Pardew’s paper-thin squad.

United were today assessing Tim Krul’s hamstring after the 1-0 win over Norwich, and back-up keeper Rob Elliot will be on standby for the trip to West Brom.

However, it is the positive news on Marveaux that could yet boost the Magpies as the season hits the final straight.

Marveaux was hit by a troublesome groin problem in his first Premier League start for Newcastle on November 5 and has been in rehab ever since.

The winger flew over to Colorado to the famous Steadman clinic to have an operation last year and has been on the steady road to recovery.

United won’t rush the lightning-quick winger – yet without a shadow of a doubt, Marveaux’s return to the first-team locker room would be timely going into the crunch April period.

The winger may yet get to salvage some of his first season at the club and with games in April against Liverpool, Swansea City, Bolton Wanderers, Stoke City and Wigan Athletic, it will be a case of all hands on deck for Pardew’s men as they look to close in on a Europa League spot. However, while Marveaux’s season may yet be about to pick up, it would seem that talented young defender Remie Streete has kicked his last ball until pre-season.

The South Shields teenager fell awkwardly in the reserve-team derby against Sunderland two weeks ago and was carried off at St James’ Park.

Initially, reserve-team coach Willie Donachie thought the injury was not so serious, but the Magpies sent Streete to a London specialist to have surgery following ankle ligament damage.

Pardew is likely to hand Streete his chance in pre-season and the player could feature in United’s exciting summer plans.

Newcastle are soon expected to announce a long-haul tour with Streete a prime candidate to join the first-team squad.

If he can get some minutes in before the season ends then it'll get some of the niggles which happens after a long layoff out of him before what is a huge pre-season for his career.

Can't see him in a middle 3, not as strong and fiesty as Cabaye. Wide in a 4 or playing a Ben arfaish role as he is now.

You've prob seen him more than me, so I can't argue with you. But I believe I've seen him play in nearly every appearance for us and I'd like to see him play ahead of 2 center midfielders or play a traditional 3 midfield with him on left, Tiote sitting, and Cabaye on right. Add him to Jonas and Guthrie and you have a rotation of 4-5 that hopefully are anchored by Tiote and you play the in-form guys.

Could be all Championship Manager stuff mind you coming out of my head.

But I'm very much looking forward to him playing for us, and if he's a squad player who comes in and plays in the attacking 3, thats fine too really, he's a talent and I hope he can get and stay fit and provide something different for us.
