Gallowgate Toon
I'd stick with Taylor and Williamson, then gradually bring Mapou in with Colo f***ed. The only thing Williamson has on Taylor is his leadership, and if Mapou is, as you say, the best candidate for captaincy, he won't need to be partnered with a far inferior player for the sake of better organisational skills. I don't think MYM is ready to be the defence's organiser, yet. I wouldn't say that's a reflection of his leadership skills either, I just think he needs to get a run for us where he can play his own game and feel confident and comfortable in this league. Basically, just focus on himself. I think if he gets a couple of months doing that, he'll be ready to lead our back line.
merlin
Even if Colo is genuinely injured, the club has had plenty of warning that he is unsettled at SJP - this will be his second long spell back in Argentina in a year and a new CB should have been signed in the summer. This is yet another example of Ashley's financial chancing combined with Kinnear's ignorance about modern players which is why he pulled the plug on Douglas...not because he wasn't good enough(in his view)but because he didn't know anything about the player. Doesn't say much for his confidence in Carr's judgement.... Colo's biggest asset now is his reading of the game - none of the other CBs at the club have this quality in the same way and we could end up paying heavily for not investing last summer. LRD
Dunno about you but MYM reads a game pretty darn well for me. The only thing he's lacking now is adapting to his back four and this league.
Ronaldo
Physically he's not up to it yet and his decision making is still light years off. Reads the game pretty well as you say and is better on the ball than I gave him credit for when he first arrived.
LRD
Yeah, all those will come with time as he adapts properly. Only thing is that defence is kinda our weak spot atm and he won't be given the luxury of bedding in easily without a regular CB partner and his FB(s) finding his feet in the team too. Unbelievable
Great stuff. Two months to make do with one injury prone CB and two that aren't up to PL football (yet, in Mbiwa's case). Thank f*** we didn't sign Douglas for nowt. I'd go with a Taylor Mbiwa partnership for the foreseeable future. In theory they should compliment each other quite well, and they could both be our first choice centre back partnership for the next few years if they hit it off. AlanSkÃrare
Mapou will come good, I'm sure. However, Coloccini's technique and ability on the ball (consequent calming influence) will take a lot of time and effort to replace.

AyeDubbleYoo
Slight silver lining in that Mapou will now get the opportunity develop alongside a more physical partner for a while. Slight.
The College Dropout
Dunno about you but MYM reads a game pretty darn well for me. The only thing he's lacking now is adapting to his back four and this league. NO he doesn't man. He often has to use pace to cover for his mistakes. I've also never sen a CB run away from defending. I wouldn't call that a slight silver lining at all. In theory, Taylor and Mbiwa look a more natural partnership, and they could be here for years to come unlike Colo. We just need Taylor to stay fit and for them to work together as well in practice as they could in theory.
AyeDubbleYoo
Mapou reads the game brilliantly man, come on. His play in France is absolutely full of interceptions and great moves out from defence.

To be fair, there have been examples of both, so consistency seems to be the biggest problem so far. In the Liverpool match before his sending off, his anticipation was excellent. Guest firetotheworks
The only slight advantage that I can see in this is that it may force our hand to buy a centre back in January. Even then it's one of the most ridiculous ways of looking at it considering that we should not only have brought someone in in the summer, but that it's a lesson that should have been learned from the last time Ashley tried to get away with not buying anyone. He's not in France now....and he DOES use his pace to try to cover his mistakes. Didn't work on Saturday.... He may improve but he is 24 now - if Good was shoved into the side and made some of the mistakes MYM has made, people would say he was crap ...yet he is 4 years younger than MYM. I don't think any of that's true like. Dummet is inexperienced at football at this level and MYM is inexperienced at football in this country. The difference is that one of them has won in a competitive league and the other is just coming through the ranks. The comparison is moot imo, but both need time for different reasons. TRon
I'm not really sure what all the panicking is over. Every club is going to have to deal with injuries and at least we've got three other fairly competent CB's who can step in. Also laughable that Colo's now being written off as a crock because he's had a couple of injuries in the past 12 months. It might have nothing to do with his age for all we know. Paully
There are some unbelievable comments about Colo these past few days! The fickleness shown at times towards our players is ridiculous
Segun Oluwaniyi
Another injury pushes the current squad to its limit, but I am fine with Yanga-Mbiwa + 1 for 1-2 months if Colo is injured.

I've also never sen a CB run away from defending. do you rate anyone that plays for us? MYM reads the game fine I've said it before. I rate most of the key players in our spine and if they play well for most of the season we will finish in the top half. Krul, Colo, Cabaye, Remy & HBA are excellent players. Gouffran is an excellent member of the team. I like Debuchy when he concentrates on defending etc. You notice MYM is very fast over 20 metres a lot. He uses his pace to nick the ball. His reading of the game isn't very poor or anything but it's not a noticeable strength like people keep saying. His pace, agility and athleticism is a great strength at the back. He doesn't read the game like Colo or something.
