Got us relegated. Serial quitter. Cost us the title.

I love him like. It's hard to 'love' a footballer these days with genuine affection but Keegan genuinely warms my heart.

How melodramatic...

Former footballers who graced St James’ Park in the 1990s reunited on Sunday to take part in a football game that benefited five charities. NSPCC, Alan Shearer Activity Centre, Children’s Heart Unit Fund, Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and Pathways all benefited from ticket sales and sponsorship from local businesses.

Over 10,000 supporters attended Kingston Park to watch ‘The Entertainers’, made up of ex Newcastle United players and managed by Kevin Keegan and Terry McDermott take on ‘The Spice Boys’, a Liverpool squad managed by Roy Evans and Phil Thompson.

Former Newcastle players to dust off their boots included Pavel Srnicek, Steve Watson, John Beresford, Robbie Elliott, Darren Peacock, Steve Howey, Philippe Albert, Brian Kicline, Rob Lee, Lee Clark, Liam O’Brien, Alan Shearer, Tino Asprilla, Keith Gillespie, David Ginola, Paul Bracewell and Ruel Fox. Mark Allison, AKA Run Geordie Run, who ran 3,000 miles across America earlier this year, swapped over his running trainers to take part whilst cricketer Steve Harmison and organiser Steve Wraith made up the rest of the team.

Although Newcastle United opened the scoring through Steve Watson Liverpool battled back and won the game 4-1 through goals from Steve McManaman, Neale McDermott and John Durnin (2). Former Newcastle number 9 Alan Shearer uncharacteristically missed a penalty.

Despite the loss fans left the stadium in a buoyant mood whilst five charities benefitted from the occasion.

Heard from a guy who was there that Shearer was acting like a prick at the awards dinner the night before.

How do you mean? Drunk? Chucking bread rolls around?

We need details!

Didn't sign any autographs for the lads waiting outside, went in and into an upstairs room (? or something, not sure what the Civic Centre is like). Popped his head around the door a couple of times, his daughter sang with some opera woman, then he left.

Most of the NUFC players spent a lot of time doing autographs and photos after the game.  Ginola especially was there for ages as were Albert and Pav and Keegan was still signing stuff long after everyone else had gone.
