Davide Santon (now retired)

I wouldn't look to sell any player we don't know to be outright s*** until we sort ourselves out anyway. There's been a lot of dodgy performances this season and as a whole we just haven't looked comfortable on a football pitch at all.

I agree and I've been one of the more critical players of Santon since he joined. Some of those comments about him not being a natural defender I agree with and he appears to be very much a confidence player too and one who maybe struggles under pressure a little bit. Thankfully all of these can be worked on, whether we have the coaching staff to do so...I'm not so sure.

Would still in the long term prefer a leftie at LB though if we going to persist with inverted widemen.

Yep Santon is a player who this season has been involved in some of the good stuff, but also as much with the bad stuff too. He has the tools and definitely the potential to be a great player, but he needs to sort out his defensive side.

Considering this i would like to see a natural left winger purchased, Santon comes inside and he the player in question goes outside while on the other side Hatem comes inside (when he's actually bloody fit) and Debuchy goes outside.

Balance  :frantic:

Agreed.

I've long said the lad can't defend. But there's potential for a class player there imo. Selling him would be stupid.

Haidara is going to put some serious pressure on him next season, will be really interesting to see how it plays out.

Haidara will be worse than shit as soon as he has a bad game.

Seen nothing from Haidara to suggest he is better than Santon at this moment in time.

To be honest i haven't seen anything from Haidara in his few appearances so far to suggest he is any better than Fergie or Tavernier at this moment in time,  he looked steady away in Russia but i thought he too overrawed in the 2nd leg against Anzhi at SJP and while he may well turn into a good player at this particular moment i don't think he is ready for the first team and would really be worried if he was playing in big important games such as the Benfica game or the derby.

The frustration is that it's not his defending that's that bad - rarely does a winger give him the run-around. He's just making ridiculous errors that he needs to stamp out. I really like him but his mistakes at Benfica, Wigan and Swansea were bloody atrocious.

Fair play to the lad, he doesn't need to do that. Most players would have ran down the tunnel

Probably Giggs but f*ck it

He's done that a few times after games tbh, not just on Thursday night.

I have noticed this as well, rarely do i see him beaten 1 v 1 in fact most times he comes away with the ball more than anything.

Concentration is the problem hopefully its something he can iron out.
