healthyaddiction
Based on rumoured fees it was about £30-£35m. Take away sales that summer and you're down to around £20m. Take away the January sale of Cabaye you're roughly breaking even.
DubblyDubblyDubbly
2 good centre backs 1 right back 1 very good striker 1 very good winger At least 30 million if we want decent quality 30/5=6... remind me how much Riviere ( is alledgedley meant to have) cost. 2 Obertw*ts I heard
The College Dropout
We'll sell Tiote and replace him. We'll sign a striker. Another defender. And some young / cheap players where we can. That's it. If we sell Sissoko we'll try and replace him too. We aren't far from selling Sissoko for whatever we can get are we?
Happy Face
Based on rumoured fees it was about £30-£35m. Take away sales that summer and you're down to around £20m. Take away the January sale of Cabaye you're roughly breaking even. It's not an honest argument to complain about Cabaye's sale contributing to both huge profits in 13/14 and a break even net spend in 14/15. Cabaye Profits from 13/14 led to a £21.4m net spend in 14/15. http://i61.tinypic.com/9773ip.png
healthyaddiction
I wasn't arguing it was for both. Just pointing it out. I generally think gross spend is a better indicator for a clubs progress than net spend anyway.
Colos Short and Curlies
I'd argue that league position is a better indicator than both. I couldn't care if we spend nothing on transfer fees if the football and league position improved, id actually be impressed. Mind we did finish 5th after selling Carroll and spending significantly less than 35m in the summer so it can be done
Rob W
there is a really good correlation between gross spend and winning in football................... and we don't spend and we win nowt ..................
AyeDubbleYoo
Well we're not going to spend enough to win anything, we aren't trying to win anything. Best we can hope for is an acceptable team that's not horrible to watch every week. And not even that if they appoint Carver.

Interpolic
It almost comes across like someone who was telling everyone else to calm down for years while this was happening, then the club died and it must have been a real shock. First and last dig on the subject, enjoy your retirement Ian. Good article.
