Newcastle United 2 - 2 Tottenham - 16/10/11 - Post-match reaction from page 40

Cabaye was quiet. We've seen when he pushes forward he can really dictate football matches but it didn't happen today, he also got caught for the penalty incident. Still got stuck in and picked some decent passes, similar to Parker's performance really.

Obertan was utter shit.

Getting back to Modric, by luxury I mean he's the type of player that will perfom if the team are performing or if the side is set up right for him which Spurs are, but will disappear when things are not going well or things are not set up right for him. He had his moments during the game today but for large spells he was anonymous and for a so-called world-class player you expect more. He is obviously a good player but he is not world-class and not worth the kind of sums Chelsea were apparently willing to pay for him. I think Jonas offers more...

btw how did you lot rate Cabaye's and Obertan's performances?

Cabaye was pretty anonymous IMO, made a big error for your first goal and set pieces were poor. I was disappointed by him, thought he would look good in this kind of game. Meh.

Obertan was rubbish tbh, no idea how he stayed on for the full match. Then again it can't be denied that his pace keeps defenders concerned.

cabaye = average... not really good, tiote was very dominant

obertan = turboshit! he is woeful cant cross... cant pass... lose the ball most of time... he just good at running nothing more.

I've always liked Parker and consider him a good player and someone who did well here. However, in Cabaye especially, I've seen a much more rounded player on and off the ball. That said, I still like Parker and think he adds balance to Spurs' midfield. He adds some steel and cover to a pretty lightweight midfield and keeps things ticking.

I agree with the last point although i'm unsure if he's any better than Sandro.

He works hard. Gets stuck in. Passes and moves. Good role player but nowt special. That's all anyone's saying against him. He's no Makelele at his role (reactive instead of proactive), he's not even as good as Tiote imo.

I don't rate him highly.

Think Spurs line-up didn't help today. He was wide a lot today and he's better in the middle. Much better.

I thought Cabaye was decent myself. He got forward and tracked back. He played a more niggly game but always looked to move the ball forward and at times switched play brilliantly. He gave away possession at times and was at fault for their first goal but in general he was decent. I think Tiote's performance was so dominant Cabaye's looked less impressive in comparison but he was pivotal in not only our performance but also the point we earned. I also think with Cabaye he's too slick on the ball at times for his team-mates. I noticed once or twice with Best for exampele that he just didn't read what Cabaye was doing or trying which resulted in a breakdown in our play. Obertan and Simpson were also guilty of not reading Cabaye's play/game at times too. I'm just delighted we have an all-rounder in there and you sense soon that a goal or two will come from his boots.

Bale was really poor. Rarely troubled either fullback.

Cabaye invisible for periods. Played some excellent stuff for small periods. Average/decent overall.

Obertan - positive in the first half with no end product. Poor in 2nd with no end product. Needed subbing really. Ran out of ideas (not that he had many to begin with).

What a fucking game. I'm absolutely exhausted after that ninety minutes. The last ten minutes were unreal.

That's a fantastic result tbh, especially having fallen behind on two occasions. What a finish man.

I thought Simpson and Obertan down our right were both rubbish, particularly the latter, who is just garbage man. He's just shite; a completely nothing winger whose only asset is pace. And even then he's afraid to run at people. Get him out of the team.

Other than them two, i thought everyone had a very good game. Ba and Best didn't link up too well but separately held up the play to good effect. Jonas was an absolute workhorse, Stevie Taylor got stuck in and to be honest - i thought Ryan Taylor had one of his best games for us. As fluid and confident on the ball as i've seen him, and provided a blockage ahead of Modric on numerous occasions. Well done to him.

Man of the match was Coloccini though. What a fucking monster.

I love how much of a fucking twat of a team we are to beat at the moment. It's marvellous. :smitten:

Nah man not having that. If you can please watch the game again and see if you can compare Cabaye's performance with Parkers. I know Cabaye is a favourite on here but he was not good today.

From a spurs fans perspective on your players performance today..

Jonas was motm. Caused us all sorts of problems and worked his arse off. Toite was good, worked hard and made Livermore look like an amateur. Coloccini was very very good and looked calm and comfortable for most parts of the game. Ba was good, works hard, caused us problems when the ball was played to him. Your fb's were ok but were not put under pressure (simpson though gives up at times when its obvious he can get the ball). Taylor was ok other then the mistake for the pen and Krul made a good save and generally did well. Shola was immense.

Now for the bad. Best was bad today. He caused us no problems at all and he had a touch of that simpson defeatist attitude (times where he could get the ball but stops half way). He really didn't contribute to anything the 1st half. Cabaye imo was also bad as he was simply invisbible most of the game. Imo he was getting bailed out at times by Tiote being a physical monster and tracking back. He improved a bit later in the game but that's a 6/10 performance at best. Obertan was just shit.
