Hanshithispantz
How have they made it religious ffs? 52 thousand people singing Bread of Heaven. You never been to a funeral before like? (and no i'm not saying the 2 scenarios are identical, but the meaning is the same) Aren't funerals religious? A minute silence would of been better. I see they aren't doing that either. It's more respect/tradition than religion I would say like. I've certainly never attended a funeral and thought "Well he wasn't religious, and neither is anyone here. Why are we singing this shite?" Guest The_Optimistic
Can't believe people on here are disputing on what would be the best tribute to Gary Speed?! Surely it's between the family and the club. if you don't want to sing the Hymn then don't sing it. FFS man!
Alberto2005
It doesn't matter if it's relgious or Spice Girls (Well that might be inappropiate), it's just about sharing a tribute to Gary Speed, the little details aren't important.
Hanshithispantz
FWIW it should be pretty powerful, hopefully it reflects onto the pitch. This along with an exelent display would make a fantastic tribute and day tbh, cannot wait.

Guest WashyGeordie
Just been down to the ground, look like they're moving the 'shrine' further along away from the Reception door (maybe 'cos of the matchday) so I thought i'd share these photo's: Definately nice to see other team shirts there aswell, after Everton/Leeds, Ours but even a Wolves shirt there, aswell as Sheff Utd and a Boro flag too. Good effort.
MW
i took it as meaning it would be just the woman singing? think that would be better but I'm happy either way

I find it disrespectful that his death has to be suicide and any other possibility is insensitive.

Dokko
United Announce Plans For Speed Tribute Newcastle United today confirmed the arrangements they have put in place ahead of Saturday's Barclays Premier League fixture with Chelsea to pay tribute to Gary Speed. The official match programme will carry a picture of Gary on the front cover, as well as containing a four-page tribute to the former United midfielder. Prior to kick-off, a singer will lead the 52,000 capacity crowd in a rendition of the famous Welsh hymn, Bread of Heaven. Whilst the hymn is sung supporters in the East Stand will be asked to hold up black and white cards which will depict the number 11, the shirt number Gary wore whilst at United. All supporters will be provided with hymn sheets at the turnstiles when they enter the ground in order to join in the singing. Upon completion of the hymn, a minute's applause will be observed in memory of Gary. http://www.nufc.co.uk/articles/20111130/united-announce-plans-for-speed-tribute_2281670_2532695 Perfect, well done the club actually thinking this through. TheGuv
i took it as meaning it would be just the woman singing? think that would be better but I'm happy either way Personally it hink it will be spine tingling hearing over 50,000 people sing a hymn as strong and emotional as Bread of Heaven. A fitting tribute to the man.
Ketsbaia
Oh man, the tributes are gonna bring the house down. I think the club have got it spot on here, well done. The atmosphere on Saturday will be phenomenal.

ujpest doza
Minutes Silence would have been my choice. I think the club have gone over the top with hymns and plastic cards reading No. 11.

Guest BooBoo
Really dont like the hymn idea. I think a minutes applause and the cards would have been powerful enough. Im not a religious person and feel uncomfortable being put in a position where I either have to sing along or look bad. Just my opinion, I can see why other people think it a fitting tribute. GM
Aye I'm not a fan of the hymn idea like. Well you may as well trot along and spit in Speedo's wife's face then. If it's what his family have asked for then so be it. I think it's quite a touching and classy tribute.
