Disco
Spain aren't boring, it's playing against 8 defenders in every match that's boring. Put them against a team that wants to play and it'll be a beautiful game. Don't agree with this fully. They still don't commit players forward, make runs etc because a. they don't play enough players who can do it and b. the mentality of those on the pitch doesn't fill the void. To be honest I don't really blame them today. France gave them a free pass into the semis. They were more than happy to play at half-pace and keep players fresh for the next round. It was like an inconsequential friendly or something. Don't get me wrong I'd like them to drop Busquets and play with a proper number 9 but it's tiresome as fuck to watch every team park the bus against them and people to be criticise Spain for winning effectively against it rather than the opponents. People were calling the Ireland game dull, I just don't see it.
Disco
Every time I've watched Ribery he's been shite. 12 goals and 20 assists for Bayern this year suggests he's doing something right, but i generally agree. he usually plays like a promising, if raw, youngster rather than a 29 year old. Robben's another one like that, so selfish. been a disgrace whenever ive seen him play recently. He's a very talented player and his club stats speak for themself. He has however not done fuck all for France since the 06 World Cup. The only time I can remember him have a good game against a good side in the Champions League recently was the Man City home game last season. I defend him and rate him as a footballer because I enjoy his style of play, he is something between a traditional winger and a playmaker which is rare - but frankly he is one of the biggest big game bottlers going. Bundesliga is a much lower standard than the Eng/Spa league though despite the hype, probably Serie A too given that Serie A is competitive now whereas Dortmund/Bayern are miles ahead of the rest in Ger. Dave
http://euro.tf1.fr/2012/actu-live/nasri-derape-encore-7381933.html Questioned by a journalist from AFP after removal of the Blues against Spain, Samir Nasri could not contain his irritation. "Looking for stories all the time", was initially upset the Citizen, which came in place of Florent Malouda at the hour of play Response of the journalist: "So break yourself." These have Nasri out of its hinges. The former Gunner was then carried away: "Fuck you, go fuck your mother", dropped Nasri. Aware of his (new) misspoke, then he joked. "So you can say I'm rude." Beren
What an abomination of a spectacle. So glad I was drinking and with mates, otherwise what a wasted night that would have been. Spain are dominant, effective and all that crap, but watching them play is comparable to watching paint dry (for the most part). It's their prerogative to choose how they want to play, but if I was a ticket-paying fan at that match I'd feel very hard done by. It's all opinions, and I realise some of you will enjoy their play. They were time-wasting very early on in the second half mind you (66 minutes, by my reckoning). I thought France might finally start to play together and link-up (as they had done in brief flashes during the pre-tournament friendlies) but, egos to the fore, and the frontmen always hung on to the ball for too long and got crowded out - instead of quick interchanges and early balls. Benzema and Ribery were appalling. Blanc hasn't managed them well IMO. Koscielny was very good though - one of the few to emerge with credit today from the French side. Even made some decent runs forward! After an initial promising batch of opening group stage matches, this tournament has defaulted back to the mediocre standard which was expected before it all kicked off. As I enjoy their football, I hope Germany or Portugal win the pot.
ponsaelius
You'd rather Germany or Portugal win it before England? And you call me anti-English...
Beren
Hah! To the vexation of other posters, I struggle to support this England team - though I give them a lot of credit for how they've acquitted themselves so far on and off the pitch. Pretty quietly going about their business, putting in effort and playing to their strengths where possible. Hodgson is also very likable, which helps - though I do thoroughly believe he is talking complete horseshit (re: the footballing reasons for Terry > Ferdinand, Johnson > Richards, Downing > anyone else). Never been a patriot though - only ever really followed Newcastle players on the international stage, and supported teams who are pleasing on the eye. A citizen of the world, if you will
johnnypd
France play like an under-21 team with the big egos always wanting their turn on the ball, too many fancy and ultimately stupid tricks and not enough understanding as a team. typical spoilt brats who throw their toys out of the pram at the earliest opportunity. Anyway as for the tournament as a whole i'm not impressed. While the standard of football is clearly higher than 2010 i actually think there's been less magic, memorable moments, strong narratives, dramatic scenes, late goals, controversy etc. ultimately those things determine whether people will look back on a good tournament or a boring one. Just hope the remaining games do something to change that.

I don't think the tournament has been help by the line up of the QFs, 4 easily predictable winners (lets face it taking off our England tinted specs, no one outside our borders gives us much of a chance). The semi should be a lot better and closer games, although seeing past a Spain Germany repeat final is extremely hard.

Hanshithispantz
I think Chelsea winning the Champions League will have prevented most neutrals from writing us off tbh now that we've topped our group. Us, Italy and Portugal are in the same boat imo. (That's not to say I think we're as good as Italy, I just think we have a near enough chance as they do of winning the tournament)

Deuce
Well I believe France's due for a line-up revamp...again. Mexes and Menez certainly don't deserve call-ups anymore. Koscielny has done more than enough to earn a starting gig next to Rami. I was disappointed not to see Valbuena this tournament, he's a pesky little fucker for Marseille. Something's gotta be done to break-up the love fest between Ribery, Benzema, and Nasri. It's a detriment to the entire squad that they refuse to bring anyone else into the attack. I understand HBA's frustration, they completely ignored him against Sweden. If I'm HBA, I'm flipping Blanc and Co. a big fat middle finger after this tournament. Nasri especially is such a daft little twat.

Kaizero
I really loathe Spain these days. Greece anno 2004 were more entertaining to watch because at least they were major underdogs fighting to hang on to their leads. Spain just play like cunts for the sake of being cunts when you look at the quality of their squad, man.
