Could you imagine Keegan or SBR being so conservative with him? Not a chance. They'd just tell him to go out there and strut his stuff and not to worry about how many yards he does.

Agree. Pardew is more another Chumps, rather than a Keegan.

Fixed. :)

Am I reading too much into his first reaction after scoring being to point at our fans?  Wondering if it was recognition of the support he's had and the fans chanting his name when he's on the bench.

Also the support he had during his injury I guess.

Agree. Pardew is more another Deschamps, rather than a Keegan.

Which is what we need at this time.

Maybe.

Deschamps won the title imo. But his football was (still is) boring as f***.

And what has Keegan won in his managerial career?

Great goal yesterday, delighted he's off the mark this season and once again there was those glimpses of what he is all about.

That said you can see what AP is talking about...He lost the ball quite a few times although nothing came of it and for me he doesnt cover enough ground neither. I think the latter statement is why AP isnt starting him.

Maybe Barfa is still working on his stamina to cover ground for 80-90mins and when his stats reflect this then he will be given a start consistently.

AP loves his stats and it is a good way of looking at your side but with a "maverick" kind of player then there is exceptions and Barfa is just that. He is a game changer and should be starting behind Ba.

You know, despite Deschamps title, Marseille's fans are still chanting Gerets (who did nothing in terms of results) name at Velodrome.

But we were talking about managing a talent like HBA. Hopefully, there are still managers in the football planet who will play such a footballer week in, week out, and succeed to get the best from him. Keegan is an exemple.

Demba BA : "Ben arfa will prove that he deserves to play."

D. BA : "Ben arfa will reach/find again his level".

BA said that HBA works really hard, he's progressively finding again his physical condition. This goal is great for him.

He also said that it wasn't a easy goal to score but it was simple for Hatem.

Moreover, he said that it's not easy for him to be on the bench but he accepts it and will prove that he deserves to play!

But BA don't worry at all for Hatem, he just needs to carry on playing games...

PS : BA also said in the interview that it wasn't possible to not love Cabaye.

A problem for HBA and that No10 role in a 4-4-2 is that it does demand a lot of energy and fitness. Beardsley and Bellamy used to run their cods off every game. It doesn't look like Hatem is there yet, and perhaps ultimately it's not his optimum position. At some stage, I'd like to see him wide in a 4-3-3.

I thought yesterday was his best cameo of the season, in terms of ball retention and working as part of the team. He passed more and supported Ba as the 'anchor' of the attack in the last 20 minutes or so.

Tooj has it totally spot on though. With players of the ability of Ben Arfa, sitting there and calculating the statistics is an utterly pointless exercise. The only stat that matters is the amount of points we accumulate from his raw talent and ability to single handedly change a game.

Bobby wouldn't have thought twice about throwing him in - Pardew should do the same.

I'll say this for one, he'll definitely score and create more goals than his giving the ball away costs us.

Yes, I remember reading it a long time ago. Thought it was very true but after when you take it with some distance, it's funnier more than anything.

It's clearly an interesting point of view but the "complot theory" is a little too much I think.  :undecided:

I've got a horrible feeling theres something not right between Ben Arfa and Pardew. hopefully wrong like.

Got to start the next few games infront of Best. Not just Liverpool and Man utd but Blackburn, QPR and Fulham too. Lets give this lad a chance and see what he can do ffs.

I'm not worried about their relationship to be honest, i'm more worried that Pardew lacks the imagination to make best use of him, whether it be as a no. 10 or on the wing.

If HBA himself is saying he's not fully fit then i can't see there being a problem. I've always been saying I think it'll be next season before he's fully up to speed so I can't criticise Pardew too much if it's a fitness issue, it's a hard case to argue though after he started against the two manchesters and chelsea.

The "complot theory" apart  , it identifies perfectly Deschamps inconsistenties towards Hatem.
