ALAN PARDEW believes his squad is as refreshed as it could be for tomorrow's home clash with Stoke City at St James' Park.

Pardew will bring Yoan Gouffran and Mathieu Debuchy in as the pair are ineligible for Europa League games, while Davide Santon did not play against Anzhi on Thursday night and Pardew was able to bring Yohan Cabaye off earlier than expected.

Hatem Ben Arfa also gained a vital 65 minute run-out and is again in contention to face the Potters.

Pardew told the Chronicle: “We had the chance to rest Cabaye for at least the last 15 minutes.

I think everybody looks fine, we haven’t picked up any injuries.

“We’re sound with that.”

Pardew did have concerns about the effect of the plastic surface on Shola Ameobi’s knee.

But the big striker came through unscathed and Ben Arfa is also available.

Pardew said: “Hatem lasted longer than I thought.

At half-time I thought we might have to take him off.

“But he got to 60 minutes and Shola should be OK for Sunday.”

Pardew hopes that Ben Arfa can hit the next level of fitness after a three-month absence prior to the game in Moscow.

He said: “It’s that electric sharpness that we know he’s got.

“He got away a couple of times but he couldn’t get away fully.

“That’ll come in the next two weeks.

“But he’ll be involved against Stoke.”

I'd like to see him come on in the second half tbh, replace a no doubt lacklustre Jonas to really put the thugs to the sword.

I expect that to happen tbh, 20-30 mins against Stoke, 60 mins against Anzhi ( result permitting) and same again against Wigan.

By the time we play City the sharpness Pardew alludes too should be there.

f*** off with this false number 9 s****.

Why not? He's perfect for the role if the team is set up right.

I'm on about the terminology.

And no he isn't!

The term false 9 hasn't and nor has the position/role or whatever you want it to be. People are just looking back through the decades, picking out I don't know say Hungary and thinking hey, that Puskas, he wasn't a nunber 9 was he?! Must have been a false 9 then...

f*** off!

Can you imagine fans back then talking about false number 9s or the media writing about such crap?

I'm with HTT on this 'false 9' thing. It's doing my f***ing nut in.

Me too. Reminds me of this lot:

Class

I hate people like that which sadly seems to be how blokes are becoming these days. What happened to the shirt, jeans and shoes man? Now you have blokes, some in their forties, wearing twisty jeans that hang down their arse, huge v neck t shirts, with a scarf around their neck, fucking either big pointy boots or sandals with fucking dog tags hanging around their neck, flat caps on their head and bracelets around their wrist. You're not cool, you're.... a dickhead.

A lad who plays football with us was out one night and dressed like that, he's 40 and you just know his wife watched fucking geordie shore or that london crap thing and thought that's how men look these days, here try them on. He looked like a dick and probably felt like one too.
