Explains quite a lot.

Is that right? Where's it from?

Cos if so, it really does show the need for a shake-up with our general formation. As if the results and performances didn't already...

Couldn't believe what I was watching. I can't remember how many times we played it back to Krul, who punted it upfield and we lost possession. Is that Pardew's instructions or what? Because I don't know why anybody would keep on doing that, why can't we throw it out to the defenders and keep the ball on the floor? I know we have crap fullbacks, (excluding Santon), but we can surely try and play it out from the back a bit when we have the time? The other baffling decision was picking Vuckic over Ben Arfa, I just don't get that. I really like Vuckic, but for me Ben Arfa had to start that game, coming on at 70 minutes to try and win the game away from home and already losing is pathetic, what the hell does Pardew expect?

Like others have said, I'm starting to get really frustrated with Pardew at the moment, the decision making and the negative attitude last night really annoyed me. He needs to buck his ideas up if we're to get anything from Man U next week.

There was one breakaway where Krul launched a throw out to Obertan on the wing, just by the half-way line. It was a superb throw, and we were immediately in a decent position with which to break. Obertan dallied on it and progressed about ten yards before playing it backwards, obviously, but it was refreshing from the goalkeeper. Instructions or not, a bit of initiative now and then can go a long way.

Fucking Steven Gerrard taking control of a game in a way other English midfielders coould only dream of. Hope for Englands sake he can remain fit.

I wouldn't say he took control, but he showed his class every time he was on the ball. He took his goal brilliantly.

For some reason, few people on this board rate him.

If Erikkson had used Gerrard and Scholes correctly, ie not pushing Scholes wide left to accommodate Lampard ,which obviously influenced Scholes to retire from International football, England would've had a far better side from 2004-2006.

Gerrard is class and with Scholes next to him, there were fewer better central midfield pairings anywhere.

Yeah exactly, why does it have to always be a punt upfield where there's a very high chance we'll lose the ball? Just don't get it.

Panic reflex. Bar Colo our defence isn't comfortable in possession or under the most minute of pressure at all.

The way the 1st goal was conceded arguably riles me up more than the 2nd.

Liverpool's corner is cleared by us.

Colo picks up the ball and runs forward. Can he pass to anyone? Can he f***, because we never put anybody on the half way line ever. He loses the ball Liverpool attack with a s*** cross which is cleared by Tiote in front of 5 other players needlessly in our 6 yard box to an unmarked Bellamy.

Awful tactics/defensive philosophy which we employ every week which leads to the awful defending for the goal

The more I think about this match, the more I think the ridiculous coverage exaggerated my annoyance at our performance.

The worst part was when Redknapp was asked what he wanted to see in the 2nd half and he just went on about things he wanted Liverpool to do to win the game.

I was foaming at the coverage last night. Bouncing off the walls.

Was so one-sided it's unreal. Even the commentators were desperate for Liverpool to keep scoring.

I tend to find that's always the way with SKY. NUFC are always their 'enemy' team. If we play a team from lower in the table SKY want an upset, if we play a team from the top of the table SKY don't want us to hinder the other teams challenge. SKY commentators also like to mention rumours of other clubs coming in for our players. I wish there was a 'no commentary' option. As soon as Gerrard scored I turned the sound off as I knew what was coming.

There used to be, as part of the interactive options. Gone these days, I looked the other day for a way to get rid of Ray Wilkins.

What really winds me up is that year after year, those twats are pumped up for Newcastle rolling into town. How many games this season have Liverpool been below par at home? They played as if it was a fucking cup final last night.

Which is exactly what we should have done

Alan Pardew says NUFC should have been more positive

    by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle

    Dec 31 2011

ALAN PARDEW feels that Newcastle United weren't positive enough at Anfield last night after watching his side bow out of 2011 with a disappointing defeat.

The Magpies also lost ground with Liverpool after the Kop side rose to fifth in the table with a four-point cushion between the two teams.

Newcastle failed to hold on to their lead at Anfield and while Daniel Agger’s own goal was the first Toon strike at Liverpool since 2004, Pardew emerged afterwards to say: “I’m a little bit disappointed we weren’t more positive.

“We got in good situations, and I wanted somebody to take somebody on and be a bit more constructive, like Yohan was when we nearly got the equaliser (after Demba Ba had an effort hooked off the line).

“Those two incidents, the free-kick and clearance off the line, determined the result.”

And although Pardew tried to remain upbeat after the 3-1 loss, he also admitted: “We’re disappointed. We got ourselves in a good position in the game, and at 1-1, in the second half, it started to look like we were starting to impose ourselves even more on the game.”

United fell behind when Cheick Tiote was harshly penalised for a foul on Agger which resulted in Bellamy scoring his second of the game with a free-kick, during which Danny Simpson and Tim Krul got in a mix-up.

Former Charlton Athletic manager Pardew said: “The free-kick was a turning point.

“It shouldn’t have been given in the first place. We made an error in terms of Danny and Tim getting in each other’s way.

“I think Tim would have saved it quite comfortably.

“It’s a tactic we use to defend that post if we think they’re going to bend it over. We’ll perhaps have to review that.”

Perhaps the players simply didn't follow his instructions then?
