ponsaelius
People laughed at the concept last time but I do hope we're still looking at other deals and not focussing all of our efforts on this. If it's a quick deal that might end up a bargain then fair enough I'm happy for us to go for it, but we have far bigger concerns at the minute surely. Very much this. Dave
This seems like a really shit idea. Why? We're talking peanuts for a kid touted as the next big thing. All this attitude bollocks is nonsense, to me at least. There have been so many good players who are also absolute cock ends. If he acts himself, or isn't producing the goods, we move him on for little, if not no, loss. We'd be mad not to take a chance on him. I just can't see why the biggest club in the country would be willing to let an 18-year-old's contract run out if he was that good, or they thought his attitude was retrievable. They've kept on plenty of players that people on here would turn their noses up at and won title after title, yet this lad isn't worth it? And though I'm sure you'll argue Nile Ranger isn't as talented (no idea personally), we haven't found it too easy so far to offload him. People know he's an arsehole who's been in trouble with the law and done nowt in the top flight, so why bother? We've already got our own promising young players who play in the same position, senior players who are good professionals and players stuck in the middle of that like Dan Gosling. This is exactly the same situation as that transfer IMO; all about gambling on a cheap option that might make us some money rather than spending the money on the actual needs of the team and squad. Smal
Man U clearly want him to stay as they've rejected bids and offered him a contract, which he's turned down
Guest gggg
You never know how good someone is until they play some first team games, half the players he's played against so far will end up being binmen and postmen. How many next big things have Man U had since the mid 90's, the best player they've brought through is John O'Shea.
Dan Gleebals
Lets face it, if we could grab one of Rudolph's up and coming asset off him (off field problems aside), it would be worth it just for that.
littlelunchbox
i don't understand why man utd rejected the offer if they dont want him fergie clearly rates him quite highly and wants him to stay, the boy's contract runs out this summer, meaning he is free to talk to anyone in a few weeks time as the rule of having less than 6 months left of a contract grants you that wish. my take is, man utd are still negotiating hard to tie this kid down on a new contract, and the kid is playing hard ball becuase he wants certain conditions as well as an increased wage packet. Dave
Put it this way, if they genuinely wanted him to stay we wouldn't be sniffing around and coming up with £500k bids. We obviously know he's available. Let's say we enter negotiations with PSG over Erdinc, the player wants to come and we are convinced he'll be ideal for us having scouted him for over a year. We offer £6m, they want £8m. I wouldn't want to miss out for the sake of that £1m compromise because we'd spent it elsewhere on a talented wanker hoping he comes good. Hugely simplified example like (and I'm in no position to say Erdinc is a better player or owt), but based on the summer that's how tight we are with brass these days. littlelunchbox
I think we're just being used to get him the deal he wants. yeh i think so too, and maybe the kid is just shopping around to see if anyone is stupid enough to pay him more than what man utd can offer. i say we leave this kid alone. in a few weeks time he will be free to talk to anyone and organize a free* transfer, meaning he can command even more wages from his future club, *the club will have to pay around 300K compensation though as he's under 23. Skirge
We took Ranger knowing he was a bit of a twat, this kid seems to have the same kind of issues as Nile, would coming here and not playing regularly mean he would still be a problem player. Man U have offered him terms and he refused them I guess that is down to him not getting games. Fergie did say though that his demands were unrealistic, its not like they want rid due to his behaviour.

The vibe I got from the Everton fans when we signed Gosling was that he was fairly average. I put it down to bitterness at the time like but we'll see (He still is only young). The Man Utd fans seem genuinely gutted about this and I havn't seen a bad word spoken.
