Papiss Cissé

Recommended Posts

Nah, if he was leaving the Wonga row would have been the perfect time to leave. He is going nowhere.

Probably sign a new contract.

All down to  :pards: coming back from Portugal to sort out this mess. Don't know where we'd be without him.

‘It’s unusual but nice to be able to talk about Papiss as a footballer, after all that has gone on, and I must say the two days’ training he has put in has surprised me.

'He has looked in really good fettle, and he will have half a game, at least, at St Mirren.

‘I am pleased it has all been sorted out, and we will bond round him now and support him. We will try and get the best out of him, because he is an important player for us.

‘It was a taxing situation for him, but he is fine. We are a resilient bunch, in football. You have to bounce back in our world, or you’ll be in trouble. Papiss can play a big role for us this coming season, and I fully expect him to kick on and make a positive contribution. He was a little bit isolated at times last season, on his own up front, but if he can get a relationship going with whoever might be alongside him, I can see him thriving.

4-4-2?

Pardew said that days ago. Wants to play with two strikers more often this season.

Yep.

The weakness is it doesn't suit Ben Arfa, we don't have a LW and we don't have a partner for Cisse yet.

It doesn't but you solve a lot of those issues by having 2 midfielders who contribute offensively, i'd argue that's the biggest issue actually.

Apart from the obvious partner for Cisse but its quite obvious Pardew won't go that route until we get one.

He played there on his full debut here and was brilliant.

4-3-1-2, Ben Arfa behind the front 2

This is the best scenario. Cisse on his own wasn't working - we were too predictable and lacking in numbers/support. If there's a way we can have 2 strikers and HBA thriving, we have to go with it.

I'd say the important part of that quote is the bit you didn't highlight. If you are going to go 4-4-2 then you need some good service from the LW, and I still don't see where that's going to come from.
