Al Masry vs Al Ahly.. at least 75 dead

There are very strong suggestions from journalists in the Middle East that the Egyptian government was behind the violence. Al-Ahly's ultras have been at the heart of the revolution movement and upset the military leaders. There are eye witness reports from people saying that the security forces locked the doors so Al-Ahly fans couldn't get out and encouraged Al-Masry supporters to attack them, who were conveniently tooled up to the  eyes with bats, knives and fucking swords. The timing is extremely convenient too as it allows them to justify keeping the state of emergency in place which they were under pressure to relax.

Shady as ferk.

Yup, there's political undertone rather then your usual football violence/hooliganism.

Most of the deaths were caused by the crush in the stampede to get out of the stadium in order to avoid any violence. Basically most of the dead were trampled and suffocated, it wasn't that hundreds of people were beating and stabbing each other to death.

The stadium that was partly set on fire was an incident at another match (Zamalek vs Ismaily) after it had been cancelled as a mark of respect.

Henry Winter suggesting there should be a moment's silence this weekend to respect the victims of this. Thoughts?

The deaths of fellow football fans who died/were murdered in such large numbers should make us all pause for a moments silence to reflect on this tragedy.

I don't see how anyone calling themselves a football fan would disagree with that, but then again reading some of the comments on this thread it wouldn't surprise me.

Winter weather killed over 100 people in Europe yesterday.

It's a football related tragedy and I feel we should have a minutes silence at all weekend games. Winter weather related deaths is, while tragic, unrelated to football. No idea why you have brought it up.
