Debuchy looks like he's gained a yard of pace this season.  He looked slow and cumbersome at times last year.  Pleased for the lad, he does actually look like he gives a s***.

Nah its not its that he allows himself an extra yard or two instead of thinking he can make runs forward and recover.... he's realised in this league he doesn't have the pace to allow defenders to have a yard on him and recover.

He also doesn't get himself involved in too many foot races. He'll put in a challenge before the man gets to full pace, very refreshing compared to old Daniel. But like I say, this sometimes leads to freekicks/yellow cards.

Honestly can't believe anyone thought he wouldn't come good.

:anguish: :anguish:

What's that for like? That's my honest opinion. He's an energetic, positive fullback who we were (nearly) all ecstatic to sign. Then we did our usual thing of absolutely hammering him for a dip in form.

A dip? He was a liability for a long period of time and almost 11 months later were finally seeing the kind of player we paid quite a lot for.

It's about f***ing time a full French international FB in his peak years puts in these kind of performances, he should have been like this from near enough the start. He's not a kid and didn't deserve to be treated like one.

He's not a child no, but the player was put in an unfortunate situation to try and adjust when he arrived last season. He and many other players who had never played in the country before were thrown into a team with no chemistry or confidence that frankly was teetering on the brink of collapse. The delay is understandable. The first few matches of this season were worrisome, but he has turned himself around since his collapse against Hull. Now we sit and look at what he can accomplish. There is no reason he can't be a big player for NUFC, but his weaknesses have been exposed before.

I've given Debuchy a hard time since he joined as not seen enough from him but of late he's really put in some decent shifts. Some of the blocks and sweeping in behind to cover for the centre backs was class.

If we keep getting these performances from him then we are in for a treat.

I think he's quality and always kept the faith even after City. Lets hope he keeps learning as he could be a very important player for us for many years.

Agreed, he suffered like all of our defenders because we couldn't defend as a team which made them look much worse than they are.  Our midfielders (mainly central) were a joke earlier in the season and that has changed and our defence looks a lot  better for it.

I think he's seen his match against City and realised he really has to knuckle down if he's to have a respectable career here. You can see he has quality in his game.

I thought he came in for far to much flak last season tbh, in the whole I thought he was fine, he hasn't even been here a full season yet.

Those who watched him in france before he joined. Was he quick then?

What I mean is, he has looked like a player going through a period of adjustment, getting used to the fact he isn't as quick as he once was.

When he first joined he was getting square on to attackers like he felt he could beat them for pace. Also when he went forward he was bombing on and trying to go down the outside only to again get done for pace.

Just thinking after a number of injuries he seemed to have in his final year at Lille perhaps he has lost a yard and it's taken him awhile to realise he needs to step back and give himself extra space to defend against faster players?
