Let's be 'avin you.
wormy
Shame. Not saying he definitely will be but hope he doesn't turn out to be the sort of manager that will jump at any chance of a 'bigger' club (his quick jump from Colchester to Norwich before this). Of course a manager will want to push himself higher but right now, I don't see how Villa's situation is a more exciting future than Norwich's. Tiresias
Not sure why he would want to go to Villa tbh, Norwich seemed to be a pretty nice setup
Guest gggg
Terrible decision. No manager has moved onto better things from Villa since the 80's. Do poorly and you're on the scrapheap, do well and nobodies that impressed. Keep doing well at Norwich and much better opportunities will come along. Jack Flash
It's a shame that these 2 well respected managers (Lambert & Rodgers) who were leading smaller teams to "glory" have jumped ship at basically the first chance.
Dave
It's a shame that these 2 well respected managers (Lambert & Rodgers) who were leading smaller teams to "glory" have jumped ship at basically the first chance. Aye.
wormy
You can kind of understand it with Rodgers. Still a shame. But as much as I hate to admit it, there is always that chance of building something at the bindippers purely thanks to their name value, as much as it shouldn't be that way. But Villa? Just don't understand it, can't see him getting much money for himself or the squad to make it worth it.
Hanshithispantz
Villa have potential tbf, as good as a job he's done with Nowrich I really cannot see them becoming more than lower half regulars at best, players will always be on the move if the perform well where as the chance for stability with Villa is much higher. No reason at all Villa cannot be a decent side again imo, they just need a good manager and a plan.
Fenham Mag
Is Paul Lambert walking out not worthy of a thread ? Can see them making a ridiculous appointment, Nigel Worthington back perhaps?
wormy
Is Paul Lambert walking out not worthy of a thread ? Can see them making a ridiculous appointment, Nigel Worthington back perhaps? That article makes a couple of good shouts tbf. Malky Mackay wouldn't surprise me. And Hughton's got to end up back in the PL at some point with all these links. Dave
But that figure would not worry Norwich who expect to receive some compensation from Villa when Lambert is officially installed as boss. Eh?
wormy
But that figure would not worry Norwich who expect to receive some compensation from Villa when Lambert is officially installed as boss. Eh? Could they manage some kind of enforced compensation if they can prove tapping up or something?
Dave
Doubt it. According to the article Villa requested permission to talk to him, they refused so Lambert jacked. Fuck knows how they'll get any compensation.
Fenham Mag
According to some Norwich forum, he has a one year rolling contract anyway and can leave if he wants.
wormy
According to some Norwich forum, he has a one year rolling contract anyway and can leave if he wants. Very silly move from Norwich if that's the case. Unless it was him leaving his options open and not wanting to negotiate, of course.
Wullie
It's a shame that these 2 well respected managers (Lambert & Rodgers) who were leading smaller teams to "glory" have jumped ship at basically the first chance. I agree, I find the whole thing quite depressing really. I hate how it's barely a team game anymore, teams below the ones with the money are all just a big shop window for both players and managers. Maybe it's always been like that, I don't think so though.
jdckelly
why would he leave a good solid well run club for Villa? Hell the Rogers thing is understandable but wtf is Lambert up to
Decky
Has there ever been a pre season as mental as this in the Premier League when it comes to managers? About 6 clubs will have new managers already.
jdckelly
its an odd one alright but then again it was an odd season in the lack of managerial change during the season so perhaps just making up for it
TaylorJ_01
Thread title change??
toontownman
It's a shame that these 2 well respected managers (Lambert & Rodgers) who were leading smaller teams to "glory" have jumped ship at basically the first chance. It is a shame for Norwich and Swansea but a no-brainer in Rodgers case and I don't blame Lambert either. Its a big chance, bigger clubs, bigger resources and spending power. Guest Tyson
Basketcase of a club, just like Randy Lerner's significant other (the embarassing Cleveland Browns). Made all the worse because the rules that ensures league parity (in the NFL ie. salary cap, draft system) increases the window of opportunity for teams to compete for titles, play-off berths etc. Difficult to think of a more aloof & incompetant cross-sports owner of clubs out there, and the underwhelming record backs that up imo. The Villa post, with this man at the helm, is a poison chalice for any promising manager looking to upgrade from a smaller club. Lambert's on a hiding for nothing. Chase
I feel for Norwich and Swansea, after 1 season in the Premier League they've already had other club beginning to suck the soul out of them.
Tooj
Not sure why he would want to go to Villa tbh, Norwich seemed to be a pretty nice setup Villa have miles more potential than Norwich though. Quite a no brainer IMO.
Guest
I think Villa will improve more this season than Liverpool anyway. Wonder who Norwich will end up with in charge then?
