To be fair he did his job tonight. There's absolutely no other reason to start him than to keep the game close and as it was 0-0 when he went off he did the job he was asked to do.

Nice to see Pardew have confidence in him; he was up against top opposition in a massive game, whilst playing out of position against a very slick Benfica side. It's been a good learning curve for him this year, he will definitely come on for it and would like to see him on the bench for the rest of the season, making some late appearances once we're 'safe'. Cup games and the odd league game for him next season.

Felt sorry for him tonight. Thrown in at the deep end out of position. Hope it doesn't affect his confidence.

Not afraid of that at all. The story on how he lied his way into Coventry's youth team shows that he is one of those characters with belief in themselves, no matter what. Horrible selection today, but still happy for him

Played a lovely ball to Cisse who fucked it up and unsurprisingly didn't do much else.  Don't blame him at all.

Got the "assist" for the offside too didn't he? Given how much we created in the first half and the fact he isn't a winger he did pretty bloody well imo

Exactly, if anything the thanks he will get from the coaching staff should be a confidence booster.
