Pardew demanding more from Newcastle strikers

Sep 2 2012 by Mark Douglas, Sunday Sun

ALAN PARDEW has warned Senegalese hit-men Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba to buck up their ideas after their slow start to the season.

Pardew, left, is targeting a Tyneside win double to transform Toon’s smart start into something more substantial – but knows he needs his double Demba strikeforce to look livelier than they have done so far.

Although he dismisses talk that they are complacent because of a lack of options, Pardew admits he has spoken to both about their faltering form.

Cisse and Ba have only scored in the same match once for Newcastle – and that came on the former Freiburg man’s debut against today’s opponent’s Villa. Pardew says the time is nigh to change that sorry record.

“I think both Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba have been under par,” he said. “Their form has not been good in the two or three games they have played and I am asking for a lot better on Sunday.

“I don’t believe they think they aren’t under pressure because Leon Best and Peter Lovenkrands have gone. I think they know differently to that.

“I think I’ve got enough tactical options to make them worry.”

United fans were dismayed that the club didn’t act to strengthen their striking options in the run-up to January before Friday’s 11pm deadline.

The club are already drawing up plans for the next transfer window and Pardew says he will press the board for a striker if Senegal qualify for the African Cup of Nations.

“Next up for those two guys is they go to Senegal v Ivory Coast – which is a massive game for this football club,” he said.

“If Senegal win we are going to lose those two strikers in January, that is going to worry me. Then in the next window we are going to have to do something about it.

“But in the short term, their form has not been good in the two or three games they have played and I am asking for a lot better on Sunday if I’m honest.”

It wouldnt surprise me if Campbell saw an opportunity and looked at someone like Sterling (is that his name?) at Liverpool and really pushed hard to get sub appearances. It highlights our lack of options because he's so young, but he can definitely use that to his advantage.

It is a bit mad that even with Sky and ESPN you'll get to see more Barca, Real and PSG games than any of our own. Not saying its a bad thing, just odd.

I dont understand why they don't offer an 'away' season ticket on sky, where you can watch all of one teams away games for x amount per season. That way crowds are unlikely to go down for matches, which is what I believe the current reason is why we have no 3 oclock games, its a total joke, we go online or to the pub to watch on foreign channels and the league don't like it. Well offer us a fucking option then and the issue will disappear, people in this country love their football and would appreciate watching Saturday afternoon premier league games on tv, instead of Russian out whatever else

Suggest it to Sky. Im sure they'll have already considered it though.

Is Ranger even in the pecking order now? i know hes a c***, but if we got injuries to one or two strikers we may need him as a last resort

nope. Pards said he'll never play for him again

Did he!? fair play to Pards for it like, does that mean campbell is our fourth choice striker then?

You pay for Sky Sports which is £25per month i think and you watch what they tell you to watch.

I see. A bit weird for 25p.  In HK it is about 22p per month for all matches in one season.

Keep that s*** in house Pards man

It's not exactly a secret though is it? Some players need a reassuring arm around them and some need a kick up the backside. Cisse, Cabaye and Ba haven't looked up to speed this season.

There are mitigating reasons for their poor form to date though.  Cabaye back late from the Euros where he picked up an injury - is that still a problem?  Cisse was ill in pre-season - not sure what with - but could that still be factor.  There is Ramadan.  We know it affected Ba last season but not how it affects Cisse.  Also last season, Tiote had his visa problems and took a while to get going - could Ramadan have also contributed to that.  Also quite a few key players did not get that many minutes in pre-season because Pardew wanted to concentrate on getting the squad players up to speed.

Fortunately, Ben Arfa seems to be one of those naturally fit players who hits the ground running.

I say this pretty much every time it happens, but it's ridiculous that I can watch this game on TV and so can a lot of the world based on that list and you can't in England. Would drive me crazy.

Arguably the reason you can watch it is because we can't.

Huh? I can see every single PL game. No exceptions.

You can watch because the game is so big now, it's big because of the stupid amounts of money rolling around in it, most of which comes from TV rights, mostly because Sky have paid so much for the rights to show matches in the UK...

Anyone know a decent place to park for the match today? Will be venturing to the quayside after the game for a few hours. So the closer to the quayside the better.

Gateshead Quays (Baltic) and walk over millenium bridge.

Newcastle Quayside is closed sundays from 6AM until 4PMish due to the market.
