Reading 2 - 2 Newcastle United - 29/09/12 - post-match reaction from page 43

awful negative display.

Considering we have Ba, Cisse and HBA on the field, absolutely. Should be playing to our strengths.

Which would be pass it solely to HBA whos being heavily marked, or kick it long to avoid our non attacking rest of midfield.

Absolutely abject first half really.

Fucking astonishing how little we create on a consistent basis.

Doesnt help when he plays 4-4-2 and then uses two defensive players and a nothing player as the midfield. Set up for HBA magic or nowt at the minute.

Fantastic tackle from Perch there.

Apart from that ball into Pogrebnyak for the header that Harper saved, this game has been so devoid of quality deliveries. Knowing us we'll probably introduce Obertan to try and fix that.

Ferguson on for Gutierrez later in the game might be a good idea.

Well, more champagne football from Newcastle.

Perch can tackle and is good at defending, but his strengths lies in his anticipatory skill and reading of the game rather than physical attributes. So sticking him at full-back does him no good. Much of a muchness with Anita there though.

As usual, relying on Ben Arfa to have a Messi moment.

We're awful to watch, we really are. Waiting for the match to end so I can get on with my day, tbh.

What an awful game. Shouldn't have expected much more when we're playing two defensive midfielders in a 4-4-2 though. :anguish:

That's not even the biggest problem. We need left footed players on the left and right footed players on the right if we're gonna play 4-4-2.

Not too bad IMO. We're away from home, most teams set up to contain and nick something when they're away and we're no different. Clearly the better side in possession, and we're passing it about on the deck neatly most of the time. Just need to make a few tactical and/or personel changes to try and create some sort of spark and that's what Pardew needs to do at half time. Final ball and set pieces have been poor as normal.

Toss, as per usual. Reading are there to be beaten, it's clear to see they haven't got the players to avoid a season-long relegation struggle, but we just sit back, hump the ball long, cross it to nobody and invite them back at us. Not sure whether it's poor tactics, players not doing as instructed or that last year was just a one-off. Right now we look like a different side entirely.

Spot on.

Can we all agree that (especially in a 4-4-2) left footed players on the right, and right footed players on the left, is f***ing s**** and doesn't work?

Sort it out Pardew, FFS.

It's absolutely bloody obvious, it boggles my mind that we do nothing about it (apart from at Everton in the second half, when we actually created stuff and then binned it off again).

Don't see the point at all of having a go at Obertan, he's being asked to do a job that years of watching him has shown us he isn't suited to.

Is that any different?

Seriously though yes i know its totally different as he can play well in other positions before anyone bothers to spit bile at a joke
