Newcastle Utd 0 - 3 Man Utd - 07/10/12 - post-match reaction from page 38

3-0 is such a misleading headline.

bollocks

It's not really, we had quite a few chances that could have gone in on another day..... meanwhile they hardly created anything from open play we didn't defend set pieces good enough and that's why we lost but i don't remember them all over us creating chance after chance.

They were in the first 15 minutes which won the match. It's worth mentioning that as we sat back and defended for that period where we could have conceded 6, we were the home team.

Harsh considering that they weren't directly at fault for any of the goals.

Wasn't it Williamson who lost his marker for one of the headers?  Could be wrong about that.

Harper cost us what really should have been a goal when he fannied round on the ball with Welbeck lurking.  Just because a goal didn't come from it doesn't absolve him.

Neither are good enough.

Disgrace, shambles, pathetic, embarrassment etc etc.

We looked slow, disinterested and unmotivated almost everywhere on the pitch.  So a few refereeing decisions didn't go our way - doesn't matter as we've been jammy as fuck so far this season with them and they are not what lost us the match.  We lost it from the first minute with our attitude, horrible tactics and poor individual errors.

Harper and Williamson utter liabilities.

Big improvement needed, would be nice if next match we could look like a team who've actually played together in their entire lives.

Harsh considering that they weren't directly at fault for any of the goals. (imo corner defending relies on team effort)

Williamson should never have allowed Van Persie to win that corner for the first goal tbh.

Willo's man for the first goal was indeed Evans. His fault for me.

Not going to argue that they are, but on balance they weren't especially bad today, besides Harper's moment of madness, which is hardly a normal thing for him.

Very poor defending for the fist 2 goals. 3rd was a fluke. We are paying the price for not investing in quality centre backs last summer.

We need to stop the unforced errors our players are making from corners that swing over the line before reaching the penality area to dwelling over the ball for too long.

Need Ben Arfa to play just behind a striker rather than on the flanks.

Reminded me a lot of our loss to Chelsea last season with the same scoreline.

We miss Coloccini's orgainsation of the defence more than anything. Set plays is a part of that. Taylor's aerial presence and Krul's confidence/reassuring aura is also going to help the cause.

Pardew has to realise that we simply cannot control games with 4-4-2.  He's postponed the decision to bench Ba or Cissé or move them out wide for too long now and it's starting to cost us points. He always reverts to 4-3-3 when the 4-4-2 doesn't work. It's almost embarrassing to see how obvious the problem is and how easy he addresses it when needed.

Long term, I think Anita sitting with Cabaye and Tioté will be the way forward. However, Jonas' leadership and fight is going to be very important in shaping our season in the forthcoming games. We need to win away from home and find our identity on the pitch, it's nowhere to be seen.

We lose so much attacking play with Williamson in the team, he either plays it back to the keeper or smashes it long. Its so frustrating when we have Cabaye who can pull the strings but the ball is just smashed over his head.

Embarrassing. Game lost in the first 15 minutes when we came out like frightened little girls.

This. Which seems to be our tactics for every game. Horrible to watch the amount of disinterested players out there today. And Harper should retire, Williamson should work on becoming PL quality and Tiote should end his hazardous usage of the ball in dangerous areas. Just looks silly.

Harper 3

Looked at fault for the third and kept making the worst decisions.

Santon 6

Along with Perch, a player that can hold their head up.

Perch 6

Didn't do much wrong.

Williamson 5

Tried, but was laborious.

Ferguson 5

No blame on him because it was a big game to come into, but he didn't get at them enough, then when he did they just put Valencia on and he reverted to playing safe, nothing balls.

Tiote 3

Absolutely woeful. I love him, but call a spade a spade, he was rubbish all day. No awareness, sloppy passing and (along with the rest of the midfield) unbelievably easy to play through.

Jonas 5

Again, tried but wasn't good enough.

Cabaye 5

Went missing far too often for me.

Ben Arfa 5.5

Showed glimses of class, but got marked out of it towards the end. He didn't have a lot to work with and started trying do it all on his own a little too much. I wouldnt change him though.

Ba 4

Who?

Cisse 4

Pretty shit.

Man United

De Gea 6

Nothing to do.

Evra 6

Easy.

Webb 10

World class tbh. Made all of the right decisions at the right time and kept things ticking over. It was almost like they had an extra man a lot of the time. He was everywhere. Id kill to have a player like him playing for us.

Evans 6

Ferdinand 6

Rafael 7

Cleverley 6

Carrick 6

Kagawa 6

Rooney 7

Welbeck 7

RVP 6

All in all I thought we were bad at what we did and did the wrong things.

Total gulf in class as Dave has said. Couldn't believe we sat back and watched them play in those first 20 mins, like rabbits in headlights even if Man U did start extremely well. When we lose key players we fill those positions with average players and it shows. They might be good pros but they're not good enough. I like what Pardew's doing here but I don't buy much of his spin on the depth of the squad at all. It's small and it's seriously weak in parts and it showed today.

We really haven't turned up so far this season have we, some players look half the players of last season.
