The Magpies left it late but Hatem Ben Arfa broke the deadlock with four minutes remaining to record a well-deserved three points from an afternoon of dominance on Tyneside. Following a frustrating first half, United upped the tempo after the break and the 74th-minute introduction of Remy from the substitutes' bench freshened their attacking options, with Ben Arfa netting soon after. But Remy believes the 46,000 Newcastle supporters inside the stadium should take as much credit for the goal as the team. "It was really important that we went out there and got a win," he told nufc.co.uk after the final whistle. "The first two matches of the season were quite difficult for us and we knew we really had to hit the ground running today, get the three points and get our season off and running. "In the second half we really went at it with a lot of pace and managed to score a goal, so I think it was important to win for the rest of the season ahead. "When I was on the bench the atmosphere was fantastic and you could hear the supporters really going for it. "Then when I came on I really had the impression that they were the 12th man here, encouraging us and forcing us to get the goal. It was thanks to them that we managed to do it. Remy's appearance was his first since agreeing a season-long loan deal from Queens Park Rangers earlier this month.
