LooneyToonArmy Posted July 12, 2013 Share Posted July 12, 2013 Alan Pardew has revealed he faces some tough decisions to make this season regarding Moussa Sissoko – but the Newcastle United boss insists the powerful Toon star is an indispensable figure in his first team. The 23-year-old United midfielder began his career on Tyneside like a house on fire with a two-goal blast on his home debut against Chelsea. But, perhaps understandably and amid a poor run by the team, Sissoko’s form dipped in a tough second part of the campaign. The former Toulouse ace’s preferred position is as a box-to- box midfielder, but Pardew knows that he would have to axe either Cheick Tiote or Yohan Cabaye to make that happen. Pardew will experiment in pre- season with his team and could field Sissoko in the No 10 role or out wide. The United chief told the Chronicle: “You could argue that Moussa Sissoko needs to define a position for him. He needs to find a position and he needs to be in the first team. “If he is going to play behind the striker then he needs a few more goals. “If he is going to play through the middle, then who comes out? “Is it going to be Cheick Tiote or Yohan Cabaye? “Or is he going to play on the side where he played for France and Toulouse?” Sissoko missed the last three games of United’s campaign with a knee injury. Yet he returned to pre-season training fully fit and raring to go last week and is clearly on a mission to shine this season. United’s backroom team are delighted with his contributions and are confident that, with a full pre-season under his belt and signs of a big improvement in mastering the English language, Sissoko can be a real star for the club next term. Wherever he plays Pardew knows he will be a real asset for the Magpies, who are looking to improve on last season’s 16th place finish. I'd like to see him as part of a 3 man midfield with license to break whenever he wishes, though by Pardew's quotes that isn't going to happen as by law you are only allowed to play 2 players in central midfield at any one time as he states. He can probably do a decent job in most of those positions, if the team around him is functioning. Gallowgate Toon Posted July 12, 2013 Share Posted July 12, 2013 The sad thing is, Sissoko with one of Cabaye or Tiote would work a lot better than the way Pardew usually does it. Anyway, hopefully Sissoko was just burnt out because he was suddenly made the main man in a new league and that led to his dip in form, he can now share some attacking responsibility with HBA. One thing he stopped doing towards the back end of last year was pass the ball in good positions. Ste Posted July 12, 2013 Share Posted July 12, 2013 Suggests to me that he's happy with 2 in the middle, either a 4-4-2 or a 4-2-3-1 so Sissoko can play behind the striker in number 10 role.
