TherealnorthernTOON Posted July 19, 2013 Share Posted July 19, 2013 Actually think this is the sort of player that can power in 10 goals a season if played correctly, doing the counter attacking stuff which he's really good at and arriving in the box at the correct time. Sad thing is, he often wandered off wide in our games last year because of our lack of width. Keep him centrally and he will score and create a havoc in their defences. Gallowgate Toon Posted July 20, 2013 Share Posted July 20, 2013 Just caught his interview from yesterday's Chronicle, he obviously likes playing no. 10 and it's good to hear Pardew's told him he needs to score more, hopefully means more than one player in the box next year. Personally, I think he's a central midfielder but he might perform much better behind the striker now he's not being asked to be the hub of the team. He played there last year and obviously enjoyed the freedom that came along with it, he did an interview with the Chronicle last season iirc. I'm not sold on him as a no. 10 but I do think he'll perform better there with HBA back fit. In an ideal world, it would be Sissoko and Cabaye behind Marveaux. Sissoko hopes that he can help deliver a top-six finish with Newcastle and play in the World Cup in Brazil in 12 months’ time. The exciting midfielder, who has shone in pre-season with a serious of bustling runs from box to box so far, firstly wanted to make it clear his main priority was with the Magpies. And the intelligent 23-year-old, who arrived from Toulouse in January for a bargain fee, is quick to point out that success at international level will only ever be a by-product of sparkling club form. However, that doesn’t mean that Sissoko, who has eight international caps already for Les Bleus, isn’t going into the season short of confidence. Having made solid progress when it comes to mastering the English language after arriving on Tyneside knowing just a few basic words, Sissoko cuts the figure of a man who is ready to take the new season by the scruff of the neck. He told the Chronicle: “This season is my biggest yet. “It’s very important to do well with Newcastle. “I know if I do well with the team then I will be selected for France, hopefully at the finals of the World Cup in Brazil. “But it’s really all about the new season.” United will kick off the new campaign at Manchester City in the role of underdogs. If anything, the pressure is off United in this particular fixture with many pundits writing the game off for Alan Pardew’s side. Sissoko said: “All we can do now is work hard in the weeks ahead and we go game by game. “But I think we can finish in the top five or six. “It is possible. “But we can’t look that far ahead.” Notably, Sissoko could get the chance to impress French boss Didier Deschamps before a ball is even kicked in the Premier League. That is if he gets the nod for a call-up to the France squad for the friendly with Belgium at the Koning Boudewijn Stadion. Sissoko isn’t the only player being monitored by Deschamps from afar. Yohan Cabaye, Mathieu Debuchy and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa could also join him at the World Cup – while Hatem Ben Arfa also still harbours hopes that he can return to the fray for Les Bleus. Speaking on his personal chances, Sissoko said: “I’ve got to play well. “But every player knows how much we can improve at Newcastle. “Personally, if I do well the French manager will call me up for the World Cup.” Sissoko appears to be a more settled figure at United after making what proved to be an earlier than expected move from Ligue 1 last January. Remember, his transfer was originally set to be this July. But with United fighting against relegation it was a move that Pardew asked to be accelerated. Sissoko moved to Newcastle for a bargain fee of just over £1m. Now valued at £10.5m, United are expecting great things from the France international. Sissoko and his team-mates are back to work today after a rest day following their tour of Portugal. Blackpool is the next stop on pre-season this Sunday.
