Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa joins AS Roma then Lyon

Recommended Posts

Im amazed Louise Taylor or any French /Dutch journalists have not picked up on just how many Newcastle International players have been PARDEWED and are likely to miss the world cup, as a result...

Tbf Mapou probably wouldn't have anyway, the rise of Varane and Mangala plus likes of Koscielny improving put pay to that.

I agree overall though, not like the media to not ask the tough questions.... oh wait.

Was MYM ever likely to contend with the 4 main French CBs?

I think he was supposed to be paired with Sakho (at least talk was) after he won the title with Montpellier - but Varane and Kos have kept him out?

He was in the conversation when we signed him ( Deschamps called him the future captain iirc) but since then other players like Varane at Real have emerged which have put him right down the pecking order.

Doesn't help that he's been in and out of the team for us of course.

Happy Zouma. Unless he goes around calling players future France captains.

He should have at least been showing signs. Not finding himself 5th choice centre-back behind Williamson, Taylor & Dummett.

He was very good at CB and then was promptly dropped. Not sure what else he can do.

Fantastic against Chelsea and second best player on the pitch after Krul when we played Spurs. Shunted out to RB in the next match.

The playing equivalent of finishing 5th and totally changing the formation. He Pardews all. Players, teams, set pieces.

Oh and, 'optimistic nut', showing signs of what exactly? Hoofing the ball into touch at every opportunity, English style? He does a bit of that, but that's mainly lack of confidence and being coached to play a different way. What does he need to show more signs of then? Shit hair? That clogger chest-thumping from Taylor? Or whatever it is Dummett does? He showed signs of a winner when he captained Montpellier to the title. Wrong move for him clearly.

I remember the clips of this guy from France when we were going for him. Honestly think he's a phenomenal talent. So good bringing the ball out from the back too.

Well, hope he gets his career back on track wherever he ends up. Has been such a good pro through his mistreatment. Never moaned when on the bench, and didn't when he wa splayed at right back either. Just got on with it.

That's the point I'm making. He should have been given games to show signs of his ability, not play second fiddle to a bunch of clobbers.

Fair enough mate but the way you put it sounded like he's probably not doing enough in training. I guarantee that isn't the case. There is no way you can't show more than Willo or Taylor. Shola must have been a world beater in training, and he's toilet. The only manager who sussed him was Keegan and if he wasn't so injured he couldn't be insured then he would've went to Stoke when Keegan tried to shift him. Anyway, it's down to the management to get the best out of a player, training or a match. The same with Ben Arfa's situation, aye he's piled on the pounds but the management would have seen it coming. He didn't just turn up one day after being Pardewed suddenly fat.

If given the patience and confidence to play his way, Mapou could/should be Colo's replacement. But with a bit pace. He's our quickest centre half by probably 50 metres out of 100. Imagine a 100m dash with Colo, Willo, Taylor and Mapou...

Playing those slow defenders at the back makes a difference to the way we play too, not least the fact that our team looks terrified to really commit going forward because it's so slow all over the pitch but mainly at the back.

He's class, such a massive waste if we don't get the best out of him.

I'd be thoroughly pissed off if we were flog MYM as well. He's potentially a brilliant CB who only needs an assured partner to compliment what he does best and that is read the game and play the ball out the back. If you watch his dribbling and passing at Montpellier it was obvious Rene Girard encouraged and gave him the confidence to do that. You see him now and his touch and dribble are timid, he's nervous on the ball and that is down to the manager getting on him or the instructions given to him in training.

The idea that Pardew will invest any time and coaching into fulfilling a young player's potential. :yao:

It's honestly at the point I'd be happy seeing these players move on just to allow them to prove they actually are good players and not have their careers stalled any further. As long as it's not In the PL.
